From the results, it appears most American simply voted the Democrats in to displace the Republicans. On social issues, they pretty much voted for no change. So it seems, they really didn't have a problem with the work that the Republicans did, they just wanted the Republicans out.

Now with a Democrat majority in Congress, it is of no surprise that Rumsfeld resigned.

A lot of it was due to "fatigue" with Congress. I'm a Republican, but wasn't happy with what many of them (Bush included) are doing. Fact is, they were in self-preservation mode, which is what politicians do when they get fat and happy and piss off not only their usual opponents, but their supporters too!

I'm not going to become a Democrat, because, ideologically, I still agree with 80% of what the average Republican pol believes in and less than 10% of what the average Democrat does.

A lot of more moderate unaffiliated voters though, who voted Republican last time, voted Democrat this time.

I honestly think that the republicans lost because they didn't get tough on illegal immigration. Democrats like to claim that they won because of the war in Iraq, but if that was the case, Kerry would have won the White House in 2004.

Republicans have been horrible with illegal immigration for years, and it cost them last November.

Not surprisingly, the democrats haven't done any better in that department.

What do the government and the media not understand about "mass deportation"?

I'm all for a mass deportaion but the immigration cops I have as customers say thats impossible ................too many of them , too few cops and too little money

The Republicans lost because of the disaster in Iraq and most people's attitude little georgey is way way over his head as president .............

Even the Republicans are beginning to turn on him , look at how bush's amnesty for illegal aliens failed the other day

Its impossible because the media and the government will never consider it. They'll just claim that we are "lowering ourselves to Nazi Germany's standards."

Its sad, really, but its the truth.

I fear that illegal immigration will completely destroy our health care and social security system.

With you 100% on that. I'm all for English-only legislation. If someone, Mexican or otherwise, wants to come here, I'm fine with it. But they should be coming here to become Americans, not bring Mexico to America. Think about it, Mexico is a shithole. If they try to make America into a new Mexico, it too will be a shithole. There's a reason the US is a better country to live in than Mexico.
