I want to know everyone's thoughts on the following:-
My fiancee's family are getting her sister's wee girl a mobile phone for her Christmas.
SHE IS SIX (7 in February for all the difference it makes). |

I think she happened to mention it a couple of times and that seems to merit it being what she wants.
I think I'll hint at a holiday in Mauritius and see if that comes my way! |

sounds like a great idea if you want to let a child waste your money, talk to strangers and have a toy they will only care about for 5 mins.
Seriously, it will give her the capability to ring ANYONE, and with all the junk texts flying around these days it would be easy for her to accidently sign up for pornographic texts.
Seriously I can't even believe someone is considering this. |

My baby Sister has one, She's just 7. It wasn't a new phone, it was her Dad's old phone with a new SIM
I agree, there's no need for her to have a phone, but on the flip side, it's a pay as you go phone, my parents don't buy her credit for the 'phone, but she can still recieve texts from the family members who do have her number (She's been told not to answer if if it rings, and she never does)
As long as you don't go being silly with it, and buying the most expensive, brand new phone available, it could be a good lesson in responsibility for the kid |

My 15-year-old brother has become quite skilled in sending texts, chatting _ and gabbing away on the phone...all at the same time...
[Shaking head] What are kids like these days, eh? |

i can see no purpose in buying a mobile phone for a six year old. but if they have plenty money and want to throw it away seems a good way to start doing it. |
