I have been having problems with System Mechanic 6 program. For the last week or so it will start to run then it will stop responding. What can i do? I have uninstalled it, and re-installed it, and still the same problem.
If it's a trial download, it's time is probably up... Usually they let you test it for about a month, then the software becomes inactive, and your only options are to purchase it, or uninstall it...
Sometimes those cleaners will take-out some of the operating system, if you just delete everything it finds as bad, but isn't bad... You need to know what those cleaners want to delete.. and know if your system needs that item, or not, before you delete something that a cleaner deems bad...
The only truly safe cleaner I've found is "EasyCleaner"... but I sure wouldn't use the duplicates cleaner... EasyCleaner, from majorgeeks, has a little uninstaller, and a backup, in case you error...
I also use, CM DiskCleaner, from majorgeeks... Careful with its registry checker... Don't delete anything that you aren't sure needs be deleted...
CM is good for finding a custom list of registry items, after you've uninstalled an unwanted software...
If you lost some of your PC's operating system, it would be a good plan to go to systems info, START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS>SYSTEM INFO>TOOLS>SYSTEM FILE CHECKER>SETTINGS>Click on DELETED FILES>APPLY>OK... and expect to be sitting there for nearly an hour, while this tool searches for problems... Insert your Windows installer CD, and do the search, for deleted bits of the operating system...
Or "format: C", and reload a fresh new operating system from the install CD... but be-sure you have the code-key for the CD.. if you don't have the key, don't format the C...
It's always a good plan to check the Net for what you plan to do, so to avoid making serious mistakes...
Example Searches: "mechanic 6 stopped working", "I love mechanic 6", "I hate mechanic 6", "be careful with mechanic 6", "how to uninstal mechanic 6"...
Read what others are saying about a software, before you do anything with it...
If a software helps or hurts peoples PC's, hundreds of people are posting about it...
Off the top... either another program is blocking the operation of M6.. Some firewalls block after-market software operations in your PC, if they are set to do so.. Check to see what your firewall is blocking.. or the OS has sustained some serious damage.. or your M6 download is faulty... or you haven't entered the registration key properly... Or your registration wasn't accepted properly.. or a hack attack damaged something in the software or in the OS...
Have you been playing in German hacker websites..? or in serials and cracks..? That'll do it faster than you can say "oops"... If you play in hacker sites, you are seen as a target, for bully hacker kids to try to destroy your PC's OS... It's how they have fun...
Do you uninstall softwares properly?.. making sure what is being uninstalled isn't parts of your operating system..? Sometimes when things are being uninstalled, a popup asks "Do you want to uninstall this, which happens to be a part of the OS that the software being dumped has a little hold to... If you just click uninstall everything, it will take out some of the OS... It's a good plan to use a good uninstaller like "Uninstaller"... and babysit the uninstall...
What software installing and uninstalling did you do, the few days up to M6 failing?... Did you change some scan option settings in M6..?
Get a fresh download of M6, uninstall the old one, and the old download from your PC...
If you have a registry backup in something else in your PC, apply that, and reboot...
Run Scandisk advanced...
And do what's in the above post...
It's just one step at a time.. and eventually you will stumble on the cure...
First thing to do, is an Internet search for: "M6 trouble shooting forum"... Register in the forum, detail your operating system, and describe your troubles as clear as you can...
And the rarest fault that it could be, is that your hard disk has developed a bad cluster...
Power Defrag has an easy surface scan feature to determine if there are any bad clusters... Bad clusters hold parts of the operating system, but the system, when in operation, can't read from a bad cluster... Surface scan finds those bad clusters, rewrites the data to good clusters, and quarantines the bad ones...
Surface scan is also in you PC's scandisk tools...
If you purchased a CD of M6, check to see if it has any stains or scratches on it... Sometimes a tiny little stain or scratch can totally destroy a CD...

I'd take it back for a refund. That company doesn't seem to give a poop about it's customers.
I bought System Mechanic 6 last year, but the installation code wouldn't work. I emailed them to ask what I should do, but they never got back to me. I did a screen capture of the message I got which included the code I had put in and the message saying it's an invalid registration code. I took it back to the store where I bought it and showed them the copy of the message and the registration card with the code on it. They gave me a refund, but it's three months or more since I bought that program and the company never got back to me.
Whatever you do, don't switch to Norton Utilities or Norton Systemworks, because they are worse. Systemworks/Utilities for 2005 and 2006 both delete two vital Windows files: VBRUN.DLL and a Win32 file. one of those is essential for Windows to do security updates.
I've spoken to friends and people in the stores that sell products like these and all five people I've spoken too have had the same files deleted by Norton.
I'm not using any programs like that at the moment because I can't find any other brands in the shops where I live.
I know two people who are highly experienced IT workers and they both tell me Windows XP onwards don't need those software correction programs and largely are more likely to cause more problems than they fix.-As is also my experience.
