I had a random pop up from spy ware doc saying my computer was under threat, so i scanned with them and it said it had found over 3000 viruses, put wouldn't clear them unless i coughed up some wonga, so i checked with spy bot and they said they found a little under 1000, but same story, they wouldn't delete the viruses etc until i paid. Are these genuine scans or what? I have AVG and they reckon i have no viruses what so ever! AVG actually cleared about 10 bad files called trojan horse for me last November! Should i belive Spy bot and spy ware dc and cough up?

I use Spybot and it is a free spyware removel tool which works well, you can donate to them but they do not charge you.

What makes it confusing is that there's the original "Spybot Search and destroy", which has a free version... And there's "Spyware Bot"... which is the one that costs...

The free one is this link: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html

That "random pop up" was itself Adware. It may even have contained spyware.
I can't emphasize this enough:
NEVER EVER CLICK ON A POP-UP!!!

Clicking "yes" to a popup like that is telling a program to run. We have no idea what else that program did. Most likely it will have also installed spyware too. There's no way you have over 3000 viruses unless it just put them all there! (Not likely)

I did a post all about how to get rid of spyware and adware from your PC on this page:
