I am going to be really closed on this and say no. I am not a drug person, and think that if someone needs drugs to have fun, there are some pretty deep issues that need to be worked out. The stuff can kill.

If people had responsibility and sense as to what they put into their bodies, drugs like XTC and the like would be out of business. Same with alcohol and tobacco. I'm proud to say that I have never done drugs of any kind, not even pot. I stopped drinking years ago, and never smoked or used tobacco. That's not to say I'm perfect, a good piece of prime rib will get hte better of me, as will good chocolate chip cookies. Neither of those goodies are particularly good either. LOL

When xtc came on the market it was xtc ( MDMA), it was even legal and light or moderate responsible use would likely cause mild to no harm less harm even then tabaco and alcohol.
Then they made it illegal and the labs who produced it went all underground. The police could find those labs by tracking the sales from the chemicals needed to produce them.
Thats when the problems started, due to the problems to get the right chemicals they started to use diferent to get more or less the same efect, so we dont talk about xtc anymore. And also because the not profesional equipment, in the now hidden labs, to produce those pils ( specialy to mix all the ingredients correctly to make pills) you got pills with diferent strenghts.
This is one of the mayor issues that caused sudden deaths under the users.
Using drugs in it self is not a big problem if you can control it, the controlling it IS the problem. You want and need more to get the same wow efect as the first time you used it.

Theres a massive difference between drug use and drug abuse. Drug use doesnt neccessarily mean a person has issues to be worked out. Neither does drug abuse but granted it can be a contributing factor. Overuse of anything is bad for you including too many chocolate chip cookies.

Spot on! The problem with drugs is not especially the drugs themselves, but surrounding issues. When something is made illegal, it becomes harder to produce in good quality (and more profits are to be made from being unscrupulous, which is easy when there is no regulatory body). The crime associated with drugs is mainly due to the very fact that they are illegal in the first place. There will always be a demand, you will never get rid of that. Why can governments not just accept that and regulate it instead of wasting time, money and resources fighting a battle they can never win? Organised crime as we know it today came about largly due to the prohibtion of alcohol in the US - high profits were to be made by selling something illegal that people wanted, and the crime syndicates had a monoploy on it. When the law was revoked, the gangs simply moved into other areas - namely drugs and prostitution.
We should take a leaf out of the Nehterlands book. Yes, there is drug use and prostitution out in the open, but they are natural things for God's sake and you can't protect your children from them forever. Informed is armed, sheltering kids just makes them less aware of potential danger and more likley to be exploited. And there is less violent crime in the Nehterlands, because they have more police time to deal with it (and lets face it, when you're stoned, you can't be arsed to go and glass anyone).
