well said, I have often wished that the gov would put their green tax revenue, where their mouth is and re-invest it in green projects.

A friend of mine had an interesting theory on this subject. Apparently climate change was never mentioned until some hippy uttered the words "global warming" in the 80s. Since then, the phrase has been bandied around like nobody's business., where as before it was never discussed. My friend thinks the situation has been blown out of proportion, and is an elaborate Government tool designed to control our behaviour, and give us extra tax. To a certain extent, I think he's right.

Actually I have to go back on some of the things I said before as I did some research into the great global warming swindle programme that was broadcast, and the website I read which essentially quoted from it.

The scientists they interviewed and billed as climate scientists were not and were not aware that they were being billed as such. The reporting contained in the documentary is very much skewed and does not stand up to close scrutiny.

It doesn't change my behaviour, I'm still pretty energy efficient and I didn't chop in my nice efficient car for a big SUV just on the strength of one documentary on the telly.

The Global warming issue is the biggest & best panacea for taxation that any government could ever have. The scientists look for data to support the issue, so their grants get renewed. In the 70's global cooling was the issue of preference. Scientists reveived funding for that.

The environmentalists are trying to scaremonger us back into the 1950's - when only the rich owned cars, flying was prohibitive & everyone lived & worked locally.

The polititions are just using the global warming issue to tax us any way they can. After all, anything we humans do (including breathing), has an effect on carbon.

Do you know - plants emit co2 as well as oxygen ... planting trees to 'soak up' the carbon won't make any difference.

We are all being hoodwinked. Give it 20 years & like the hole in the ozone layer & BSE, it will all be forgotten about. Except of course, the tax...

Oh & the gw issue is down to solar forcing not co2. Also 80% of ghg are water vapour - from the SEA - and there is nothing we can do about that !!

I think there's no denying that our climate is changing, but I don't believe that we are responsible for it. Climate change happens naturally. Always has done.

The current political consensus on the issue involves a lot of scaremongering for what whatever reason. What I object to is the vilification of scientists, or anyone else, who present a different perspective on the matter.

Science is all about coming up with different perspectives, always challenging what is regarded as fact. What's happening now isn't science. The debate for global warming has been hijacked by fanatics who have closed off any means for a proper serious debate.

I dont dissagree the tax debate, but there does seem to be changes in climate and an increase in severe Natural Disasters.

So I dont know much about it, but are you all saying that there is no need to worry and that the whole global warning thing is a Hoax. I have noticed allot of changes in our seasons, climate and our summers get hotter and hotter but is this just normal change that would have occured anyway even if there was no Pollution ?

As governments are using 'climate change' and 'global warming' as excuses for taxing us to death, you can bet your bottom cent that when it cools again we won't hear about it because it is not cash worthy.

It is now More than 90% certain that climate change is being caused by human activity.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said temperatures were probably going to increase by 1.8-4C (3.2-7.2F) by the end of the century.

It also projected that sea levels were most likely to rise by 28-43cm, and global warming was likely to influence the intensity of tropical storms.

The argument is all but over, now its time for action.

The IPCC aren't as enlightened as they want us to think.

There are MANY factors in climate change. Do we as humans have an effect? Probably some, but I don't think it's all due to us. There is a lot of evidence that the Milankovitch cycles (where the earth's axial tilt changes over time) are at a critical point just as they were at the end of the last ice age. Also, the sun's output overall seems to be increasing as of late (less than 1% but that's enough to make a few degrees change here) as well as sunspot activity.

I guess my point is this - sure, reduce emissions, but do it sensibly. If we don't we might find us destroying every major economy on the planet and living like Thoreau because we think we aren't doing enough, when in fact, only a portion of the change was due to us in the first place.

Your friend may have a good point. Personally, I think the Kyoto treaty was designed to cripple the US and give China and India an economic advantage. I go back and forth on whether or not it's intentionally done that way or not.
