Scary Movies

Postby VerityWhite on Thu Dec 30, 2004 1:20 am

When browsing the horror section at Blockbuster, I do not see any movies that even remotly are scary. Nightmare on elm street? nope Chucky? nope Friday the 13th? no. I can't think of many movies I have seen that were actually scary. I only have a few..

Jacob's Ladder... only at a few parts.

The Shining

Any more for any more?

Ohhh yes, The Shining! I watched it for the first time when I was about 7 years old and I couldn't sleep for weeks. I also remember being terrified by 'Poltergeist' ("Carol-Aaaaanne" ) but I doubt it would really affect me as much now as The Shining still does!

Another one I get a bit uneasy whilst watching is 'Candyman'. It's not exactly scary, it's just that all the gory parts make it really disturbing.

Poltergeist used to terrify me as a kid - especially the bit where that fella picks his face apart. I have to laugh because the effects have dated horribly over the years and it just makes me laugh now!

The first Halloween was quite scary too - clever use of the music and the sense of impending danger. Although that has become the blueprint for every stalk and slash horror of the modern era like Scream and the such ilk.

The Friday the 13th films are COMEDY. Some hilarious deaths in them.

Although not a Horror, Seven left me feeling quite ominous afterwards (although I'm a man, so I'm immune to getting all wet after 2 hours of Brad Pitt on screen lol!)
Please don't give me grief, I'm only a man!

Tonight I finally got around to seeing "The Others" with Nichol Kidman. It is a great story with a nice twist. There are some scenes that will have you jumping out of your skin.
