Hi I'm thinking about getting mine pierced tomorrow but I'm not sure how much it'll hurt. I've been told I have a pretty high pain threshold.
Also, how long will it take before I can go swimming after getting it done?

Ok, i know im young but i might be getting my belly button pierced if i do well in my SATS which have just finished. My mum and dad said i could get it done in the summer holidays if i got all 5's in my sats. I get the results back in 2 months and iff i get the 5's then i can get it done but, is there a age restriction? I live in the UK, in portsmouth, im 10, but will be 11 when i get it done. Do you think im too young? Should i wait a year? Most people say wait till your 16 becuase its much safer and im still growing alot and maybe my skin will outgrow the belly bar or something! So please let me know your opinions!

hi guys

im 17 ive had my belly button pierced twice once top an once bottom, i had the 1st done when i was 14 and the second about a month ago. to me it really doesnt hurt and it is nothing to wurry about, the only thing that stresses people out is when it goes a bit scabby after that is perfectly normal. i have got lots of othere piercings and a tattoo and im abit of a wimp it really isnt that painfull, just abit iratating and you must be carefull not to knock it in the early days because that can be quite painfull!!

Just an unrelated question: Is anyone here capable of writing a complete English sentence with all the words spelled fully and correctly and the grammar properly done?

On the topic, I'd advise those who intend to have their navel areas pierced to wait until they're done growing. After that, I don't believe age matters. It is a personal choice and no one but the piercee should really have much to say about it.

they use.. i guess you could say a larger than normal needle. mine was pierced with a 14 gauge needle. to give u a better example, ears are pierced with either a 20 gauge or an 18 gauge. it doesn't hurt as much as you think. i was always afraid of getting shots at the doctor and i would get myself worked up.. and when i'd get in there i'd barely feel it. it's not worth getting worked up for, and it only hurts for a couple seconds! Cool

As a piercist as well as pierced individual,
I'd have to say I think it DOES matter the age of the individual getting the piercing... Even a naval piercing.

First reason is, quite simply, covering the ass of the piercer. Piercers should NEVER pierce a minor with out concent of BOTH parents. The shop I work with wont even pierce a minor with concent. If your under 18, your not even permitted to enter the shop.

Secondly, is because per-teens and young adults arent always responsible enough to properly care for the piercing. And can put themselves at risk of infections, rejection and/or very unsightly scarring.

And last, because many young individuals dont take the time to fully research the piercings they want, procedure and aftercare. Lets face it, there are some piss-poor piercers out there. And if YOU dont know whats going on with that needle, your not going to notice if the piercer doesnt know either. And can end up with a very shoddy piercing or horror story to go with it.

I'd say the piercer has MORE to say about it.
Both for legal reasons and the health of the piercee.
If someone comes into me and wants a naval piercing, and I think they wont properly care for it, arent physically suited for it (as in their naval has to little to work with or they have an "outie"), or that they're too young.

I damn well am not going to pierce them.

First, learn how to spell and how to write a complete, grammatically correct, English sentence. Then, work on growing older. If you are really 13, you should do nothing unless you have parental permission. Even then, you are not fully grown and shouldn't pierce any area that is going to grow and change considerably, as your navel region will.
