driving a van

hey, i've been going round in circles all day trying to find an answer to this question.

My dad has just given me and my partner his transit van (it's gorgeous jet black, bullbar, and looks great when im in my police uniform lol)

Now the thing is i've only got a provisional licence, my partner has a full one, and my dads insurance says that my fella is allowed to drive it and that I am also covered to drive it.

My problem is I don't know whether I am legally allowed to learn to drive in it (sounds great coming from a copper lol)

If anyone culd help with this i'd be forever grateful as I just wana get behind the wheel and drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it' sunder 3.5 tonnes then I think you're alright.

Aren't all cars and vans under 3.5 tonnes in the same category (class A)? If so, then your provisional licence should cover you for it.

The thing to do is to look at the categories on the back of your licence, work out which one the van falls within, and see whether the front of the licence says you have a provisional entitlement to drive that category or not.

(I've STILL not got around to exercising my provisional entitlement to drive a single-seat road roller ... )

Some people just have that insurance when if anyone is driving the car, anyone is covered as long as the primary insurance owner is aware they have the car. I don't remember the code it has on the insurance card if he actually has that kind of policy. However, if he gave you this van, it is strongly recommended that he be with you while you are learning to drive the car, so worst case scenerio if you do get pulled over, the primary insurance owner is there to answer any questions.
