Z, Debs and I were on a thread that discussed this possibility just after the November 2006 elections. At that time the whole nation had swung so far to the democrats that it seemed impossible for them to ever lose, or the republicans to ever win again.
But I remember thinking (and I hope I wrote it) that the democrats have a long history of managing to f*** up their own wet dreams. (Chris Matthews once said, “The democrats fall in love, the republicans fall in line.”) And that’s just what’s happened.

| Figuratively speaking, Republicans are the parents and Democrats are the children. |

Well, if you read George Lakoff (Moral Politics) Republicans are the stern disciplinarians and Democrats are the compassionate parents.
“[W]e examine two family-based moral systems: strict father morality and nurturant parent morality. [We] present a collection of metaphors of morality that are prioritized differently by each of the models…”
But he is a Berkeley guy. |

George Lakoff is a left-wing Democrat, who must feel quite at home in Berkeley.
The title of Lakoff's book is an oxymoron as applied to Democrats. |

Sounds like an insightful, objective post there, Z. Is there an echo in here? |

No they aren't. The reason Hillary is fighting so hard for the nom is because she knows that a yellow dog could bet John McCain. He's got no money, he's flipped on every issue that once made him a "maverick", and his age is a worse negative for him then Hill's gender or Barack's race. This old fool said he doesn't know anything about the economy, that he'd stay in Iraq for 100 years and just the other day he said that we are fighting in Iraq for oil. It's true, but Repubs are supposed to say we're fighting terrorism over there. Just because he was the best out of the other Repubs doesn't mean he's a good candidate. He's a regular OLD Repub. So calm down, the Dem will win by 30 states. |

So you're criticizing McCain for saying what you claim to be the truth about why the U.S. is fighting in Iraq.
You mock McCain's position that the U.S. will not withdraw from Iraq until Iraq is stable, but Obama said he will withdraw American troops from Iraq even if he knows for a fact that genocide will ensue and Hillary has taken numerous inconsistent and even contradictory positions.
You make no mention of Hillary's repeated statements that she will wage war against Iran or her recent statement that she will dismantle OPEC (she didn't say how).
You make no mention of Obama's statement that he will send American troops into Pakistan to chase down bin Laden regardless whether the Pakistani government consents.
Both Hillary and Obama will raise taxes significantly, which is the last thing the American economy needs or the American people want.
McCain may not be an economic expert, but he is a genuine war hero with experience in foreign policy.
Obama and Clinton are clueless about both foreign policy and the economy.
The American people either already know all this or will know it before the November election.

Can you imagine a race between the presumptive republican candidate and Hillary Clinton? McCain is everything you say, but Hillary has a 52% negative rating. She’s a shrill, shrewish-type candidate and she will never win over the general American public. Guess what…the democrats are handing the election over to the republicans.
Nader forever. Hooray.

So you're criticizing McCain for saying what you claim to be the truth about why the U.S. is fighting in Iraq. Yes if the idiot still wants to stay. What kind of person wants American troops to keep dying for oil and we haven't even reaped the benefits of low gas prices?
You mock McCain's position that the U.S. will not withdraw from Iraq until Iraq is stable, but Obama said he will withdraw American troops from Iraq even if he knows for a fact that genocide will ensue and Hillary has taken numerous inconsistent and even contradictory positions. Genocide or civil war?
You make no mention of Hillary's repeated statements that she will wage war against Iran or her recent statement that she will dismantle OPEC (she didn't say how). I don't give a fcck about Hillary. She's not my candidate and I'd write in Obama's name if she were the nominee, but thank God she won't be.
You make no mention of Obama's statement that he will send American troops into Pakistan to chase down bin Laden regardless whether the Pakistani government consents. Good for Obama. He actually wants to go after terrorist groups and avenge the deaths of 3000 Americans on 9/11. God forbid we had a President who wanted to do that. He wants to kill terrorists, not take over or occupy Pakistan. Why the hell should we have to ask for permission to do that? Maybe the government of Pakistan should do it themselves and stop harboring terrorists. Those b@stards shouldn't have a safe haven anywhere. I'm glad Obama doesn't want to continue to let them hide behind Mussharef in Pakistan.
Both Hillary and Obama will raise taxes significantly, which is the last thing the American economy needs or the American people want. Only on the top 1%, you know like during the 90s when the economy was good. If you make less than, 200K don't worry about it, if you make less than 75K you'll get a tax cut.
McCain may not be an economic expert, but he is a genuine war hero with experience in foreign policy. If you're so concerned about the economy then you would want someone who was knowledgable about the economy. John McCain was a POW, which means he didn't do a whole lot of fighting and if he was such a foriegn policy expert then he would not have voted for the war in Iraq.
Obama and Clinton are clueless about both foreign policy and the economy. I won't defend Clinton, but I'm confident that Obama can handle both. He was smart enough to know the war in Iraq was a bad idea and that McCain and Clinton were full of shitt on the gas tax pandering which every economist agreed was flawed policy and wouldn't work.
The American people either already know all this or will know it before the November election. Americans will know that McCain will be Bush's 3rd term. I'm sure you won't care because you probabaly voted for the Idiot in Chief. Republicans and their policies have ruined this country and our image around the world. McCain is a Republican so he's toast.
