This girl asked me how she might hook up the internet to her television. She presumed from the conversation that I might be computer savvy. Naturally, I asked why she wanted to do it, because I thought it weird to browse the internet on the tv, considering how blurry it can be unless you have an excellent television. Usually people play games or watch movies, but that has nothing to do with the internet. I didn't say it like that, but I could tell this wasn't going somewhere I wanted it to.
Anyway, she asked me how to do it and I just talked about getting an s-video cable and hooking it into the back of your box where the video card is. She commented on the blurriness, so I talked about using projectors (since that's what I do for the massive viewing area and the great quality).
Anyway, I didn't talk all that much about it, but I guess she found this really boring. The more I thought about it, the more I found this was some kind of test. She say something like:
I never really cared for the info. I was simply curious and figured you would know a lot more than I. Thanks anyway.
And then she took off.
How can I just avoid this crap to begin with? I don't want to talk about computers. Even when the conversation was going on, I wasn't trying to make it about me... I was avoiding the issue. Any tips on avoiding this crap?
Well, when I say avoding the issue, I was just sidestepping the questions. She asks my age, I say, "I'm old enough to know not to answer that question." She asks where I work, I say, "No, I'm not the guy at mcdonalds you saw last Tuesday, unless you had a crush on him." And yadda yadda. It's good to get her laughing.
The point is, I thougth she was being serious. And while a girl being interested in computers isn't a requirement or anything (actually, it's a blessing in a lot of ways), but I like to look for it because we can talk and do more stuff in common together. So I played along and answered the question... and got a response like that. Bleh.
