I wrote earlier about the effects of implant, and how i was having it removed on the friday, --- which i survived!!! it was honestly almost pain free. but I can already feel a differance, im MYSELF! that person I lost 3 years ago is back! but a message of support from the person who wants hers out without support from the doctor.... book into your local family planning clinic, they take it out for you, and do more in a week than doctors in a month so u are in better hands.

I am writing about the effects that i had on the implant. I got on my first implant in when i was 17 yrs old and never had any problems with it. I went 3 yrs with only have my periods 2 or 3 times. I did still experience mood-swings and that but nothin to extreme. Three-four months ago i had the first implant taking out and replaced. When the doctor put it in i could feel everything. It was extremely painful. The doctor said i just felt sensations of it moving back into the original implants place but i had felt it push through the space the old implant was n closer to my arm pit. I tried to explain this to my doctor but he didnt listen. I thought he was right and i had nothin to worry about. A month later i started to fell very nausea, tired, mood-swingy, cramping, all the signs of being pregnant. I thought i might have been pregnant cos nothing was 100% against falling pregnant. It came up negitive. I tried to check if i could still feel the implant under my skin, but no matter how had i pushed i couldnt feel nothing. I went back to the doctors and told him about the sympaths i had and he gave me another pregnancy test and when it come back negitive just told me that the chip was ok and to come back in a month if it continued. I went home checked the net could not find anything on the implant that could help me out and explain what was going on. So the next day i went to another doctor told him what was going on and he felt my arm (which the other doctor didnt) told me he had to get it out straight away because it moved and could be causing problems. It took him a while to find the chip and trying to remove it seemed like a heart ache and was extremely painful for me. The chip had moved 2 inches. He did numb the area he cut but i could feel the implant under my skin. After he took it out, he told me he couldnt put me on any sort of birth control. I never really understood but but he said i had a extremely bad reaction to the implant and that i have to wait a few months to see whether i can get my periods regular again. If i didnt i have to have all test to see what damage it did to my body. Its been a few months i havent had a period and now i have to have further tests. I have not been explained properly what the damage could be but all i know is it doesnt sound good. When i got the first implant i wasnt explained any of the side effects i could have or any long term damage that there is a slight chance i can get. I have a big scar on the inside of my arm but where he had a to remove the impant.
To anyone who is considering getting the impant, ask your doctors everything you need to know first and do not think it is a easy fix. What i have experienced, it was a slight chance i would have had them but when you dont know it is pretty scary to go through.

Hi,
Lm so glad to have read all your comments its made me feel much better and had a huge influence on my decision to have it taken out, l too had what felt like non stop periods, weight gain and spots talk about contreceptive that works suprised my partner still wanted to sleep with me ! Theres a couple of comments though that l read originally and queried with the nurse and thought that perhaps l should just mention, that you dont need to take precaution during the lead up to the removel just from that day its removed you must use protection, also someone was concerned that they had it implanted when they weren't on there period dont panic! thats fine they only ask you to do this so that you make sure you not pregnant before hand not that the implant will not work. As for the removel l was lucky and mine was very close to the skins surface so it was an easy removel, it doesnt hurt honestly, bled a little afterwards and was tender for a couple of days but hey it was really worth it l hated every day l was on it, now l just got to shift this weight! any success stories of weight loss after implant l would love to hear ! x

Hi
I have had period issues since I first had the implanon put in over 2 and a half years ago. I am now at the stage where i'll have a period for a week and then off for a week, then on for a week, then off for a week and so on.
The irregular, heavy happened pretty much from the word go. So I made the decision to have it removed. I am booked in to get it out on Thurs 3rd July and I can't wait, although i have to say, from some of the stories I hve read I think I have been pretty lucky, as I have gained no weight to speak of since being on it, and no acne, and if anything it stopped my headaches.
I went to my docs today about other forms of contaceptive and she thought that the depo injection would be best for me as I am unable to take the oral contraceptive pill. I had the injection this morning and just hope that i don't gain any weight with it, as i have heard some horror stories. But on the plus side I was told to expect wieght gain on the Implanon and did not experience any so fingers crossed. Has anyone got any advice about the depo injection??
Hello, i had been on depo injections for 6 years and had no real problems at all. A very small weight gain which probably wasnt due to the injections at all. No periods whatsoever but felt a little emotional when the 12 weeks was nearly up and was due my next jab.
Unfortunately the family planning doctor wanted me to change contraception cos i'd been on it so long and am smoker too. so in went the implant.
The first 9 months werent too bad, no periods or mood swings, but because it can take a while for your body to get back to normal after depo i think thats why things were great for a while.
After the occassional bleed at the start im now getting bleeds for two/three weeks with a week inbetween. Im a gibbering reck at times and find myself crying at the drop of a hat, or snapping at friends when i thought i was in great mood!
My wieght has also went up about a stone in a year and half despite the fact that my diet hasnt changed and my level of exercise is the same.
Definitely want to get the implant removed now after reading some of the posts. Its give me the kick i needed to actually doing something about this instead of just putting up with it. Not sure what else i can use though. would love the injection again and am not great with pills but will have a chat with doc and see what they recomend instead!
But its worth bearing in mind that everyone will react differently to medications. I know some people who hated the injections and loved the inplant. Just not me!
I'm about to have mine taken out - I've gained 1 and a half stone in a year, and dieting doesn't help shift it. I may switch to a pill - my sister says the Jasmin/Yasmin tends to make you lose weight, which would be ace - but I think I'll wait til I'm back to my normal weight before I mess with any more hormones, just so I can know what the cause of any weight gain is!

Has anyone had trouble trying to get the implant removed?
My friend had one put in (under pressure) when she had a termination and now the doctor has refused to take it out until she can show evidence of taking another contraceptive (but not condoms).
She has put on loads of weight and it makes her feel nauseous but the Doctor has refused to treat her full stop now.
hi ya just read your post and I am appauled to hear that. First of all your GP is not allowed to refuse treatment unless its harmful to your health. Secondly if she's getting bad side effects then its the GP's responsibility to to do something about it. Maybe ytour friend should try registering with another GP or just putting in a complaint aginast him/her. hope everything goes well.

I have used the implant for over two years and have lived in hell for most of it!!! I wish i'd researched it sooner because I seriously thought I was going mad!!
I nearly cried with relief to see that it isn't just me and I have not been imagining it all. I have put on weight become soooo moody, almost to violence and I have never been that sort of person. My periods seem a constant part of my life, just seem to finish one and then comes the next. My boobs are painful, even to touch is agony.
I have an appointment on Monday for it's removal, I'm not expecing miracles but just hope to feel normal again. The doctors are crazy if they aren't aware of these other symptoms we are feeling, they just have to read some of the many posts written on forums all across the world to see that we are not alone and the experiences are very similar.
I didn't have any other side effects, i had 2 heavy periods in that year, not spotting or bleeding or cramps, weight gain yes but then i still believe that is about what you eat and how much you exersice. I do feel thinner but i havent weighed myself.
My dr is fab but theres still doesnt seem to be any realisation into these side effects so many women seem to be suffering, i will print this off and show it to them.
Hope this has helped other xx
hi, well this forum made me have my implant out, i'm so gald i found all your posts.
I had it fitted a year ago and for the last few months have been very tired down, not wanting to go out or do anything, aggressive, mood swings, depression, feeling like a black cloud is hanging over me, headaches, feeling useless unable to cope, very stressed about everything, anxious....resulting in me being singed off for a month after feeling like i wanted to drive my car into a tree!
The doctors didn't attribute any of it to my implant although i suggested i had read other peoples experiences etc, they said it would have happened sooner not 6 months a year in. They wanted to put me on anti depressants after scoring very highly on a depression survey but i refused.
I had the implant out last week as i needed to know if it was this. I have to say i feel alot calmer and less 'manic' but it's early days and im sure it's not out of my system yet.
I really felt like it was sending me mad...if i don't feel any better after 3 weeks then i have to admit im depressed but already im feeling alot more normal

I'm so glad I found this site!
my doctor made it out it was a miracle gift to womenkind. Now after 8 months, I definitely regret having it put in. I've gone from 9 stones to 11 stones despite regular visits to the gym and healthy food, been cutting out carbs, even tried starvation, but no weightloss. Its so frsutrating seeing the scales move higher with each gym visit! I feel so fat and disfigured I don't even like leaving the house, just feel like a monstrosity. Get hot flushes and heat rashes, also extreme anxiety and feel heart palpitations. My heart rate at gym has also been abnormally high, usually highest is 135bps, nowadays its 160ish.
It didn't help when I complained aboout my weight gain to my bf and he said, "We all grow old, and things aren't what they used to be." So frustrating as I have only recently turned 25, and never ever hit 11 stone in my life before. I was actually beginning to believe him until a few days ago when he suddenly told me to get it out as he realised how many side effects I was suffering from.
The effects that changed his mind were:
Me waking up at 4am crying
Severe depression, feel so desolate like my life is over, suicidal thoughts.
Tossing in bed worrying or crying over something.
Throwing VERY nasty fits and tantrums with increasing frequency. The slightest thing thats puts me on edge leads to a full blown argument.
I'm gonna try and get it removed tomorrow as no contraception is worth all this stress.
Also, does anyone know how long it takes for the weight to return to normal after removal? Will the depression go away as well?
i could have written this myself, have just posted about my experience and then ive just read yours. Exactly the same things as you, nice to know we arn't going mad alone!
I'd turned evil....i hates everyone, everything annoyed me, no-one could do anything right, crying over nothing, anxiety at night, sucidal thoughts....i really though the implant was a fantastic idea...i ahte condoms and am not looking forward to using them

I am 24 and had Implamon put in 3 years ago. The first year and a half was great- no periods, no side affects, no nothing.
Then the periods came back, completly irregular and randomly, sometimes for weeks, sometimes for a day. In the next year and a half this continued, and the weight gain began. I went from a perfect size 10 to a 16-18. I became severly depressed to the point I hated to be around people, I began calling in sick to work 3 days a week, then just left completly, I made excuses not to go out anywhere, not to see anyone. I wear only pajamas as I can't bear to have to put on size 18 jeans. I was crying about five times a day because I was so unhappy. The happy, bubbly, crazy fun loving girl that I had been just totally disappeared before my boyfriends eyes and I couldn't do anything about it.
I didn't actually put this down to the implant untill very recently, purely because there is nothing else it could possibly be. Luckily by boyfriend has stood by me through it all for which I am so thankfull, and yesterday I went and got the implant removed.
I have woken up today feeling brighter, happier, healthier and alot more positive. I am going to begin a steady exercise regime to try and shift the weight, and hopefully find myself again. I don't expect it to be easy, but I am hoping that having had the implant removed it will help.
I am never again using any form of contraception that involves messing with my hormones. We are built like this for a reason and as miraculous as scientific discoveries nowadays may be, I won't be trying to change or control the natural order of my hormones.

I have had implanon for nearly 3 years and have found it to be the best method for me. I am rubbish at remembering the pill, and didnt get on with the injection.
I rarely bleed but when i do its either not much at all or loads, and then you can go to the gp for a pack of the pill which stops the bleeding. I havent put on any weight, occasionally i get bad moods but who doesnt?! The best thing is you dont have to worry about unwanted pregnancy for 3 years and you dont have to keep going back to your doctor all the time for injections or pill packets.
Everyones different but i would certainly recommend the implant, but would bear in mind the problems other people have had, and dont be afraid to go back and get it taken out if it doesnt work for you.
Hi, i went to the doctor today after having my implant in my arm for 10 months, i have asked i to be removed and will get a call tomorrow for a appointment. Since i have had it in i have gain at least 2 stone and gone from a curvy 16-18 to a huge 22-24, i also get random mood swings from crying to the tv to screaming at my partner for no reason, im very moody now and dont enjoy going out at all! I'm soon going to try to get pregnant. I hope this helps anyone out there.
I am currently on my third implant and due for it changing soon. The first implant I had was great as far as I was concerned as I might have had a period once in six months. I was offered the implant by my doctor who wouldn't give me the pill anymore as my blood pressure was too high, and wasn't keen on giving me the mini-pill whilst at University. I had that implant in for just over two years and the doctor replaced it before he left the surgery. I bled more with the second implant, and periods could be a bit random at times, but I've never had a regualr cycle, even before I had the first implant in. Just under 3 years ago, I needed the implant removing and having moved house, I found a clinic easily who could remove and replace it. I have been far more regular with this implant.
In summary, my experiences with the implant have changed over time. I've not piled significant weight on at any time, and not experienced any mood swings.
The only negative side for me is the minor operation to insert and remove the implants, as it can be painful for a day or so, but not having to think/worry about taking the pill is a great advantage. I do have minor scars on the insides of each arm, but if you don't know that they are there then you really can't see them.
I think, overall this form of contractption has been great for me!
