My ex and I had been together for 5.5 years. I am now 26, him37. He recently ended things b/c he felt that we were in different stages of our lives. He now is seeing a friend of his; he says they are going to start dating.

I want to wait until after the summer is over, and propose. But what if they are still together? We did not break-up b/c he doesn't love me, we kind of grew apart. I do agree that I need this time to "sow my wild oats", but I also think that when I done I will still want to be with him.

He has already proposed to me twice, so I know that he wants to marry me.

Do I propose if they are still together and what do I give him as a gift?

By all means do propose to him. It's time things change, and its not always the man's place to propose.

If you propose and he accepts, then you are taking the lead in the relationship, which may serve you very well in the future.

Just make sure that the proposal is done in a very romantic way, and yes..., I would get him an engagement ring!!!
