Are platform shoes unsuitable for driving?

Hi everybody,

I often wear 2 1/2 inch platform shoes, even while driving. My boyfriend says they're too dangerous and even forbidden.

Is it true? Did accidents happen to drivers wearing platform shoes?
I think I've got used to them and can drive safely, so I don't see the problem.

Hi. I've been teaching people to drive for 8 years. If you are comfortable wearing these shoes and they don't feel to bulky then thats ok. The law is you should wear suitable shoes that are comfortable. There is no law to say it is illegal to drive in heels, I would advise against it.
A few girls turned wearing flip flops last summer and were away from home so couldn't change their shoes. They just drove in barefeet and said it was much better than wearing any shoes. This is legal as well.
Don't wear any loose shoes, they could slip off your feet and get stuck under the pedals.

If the car is an automatic, I wouldn't see an issue with driving. You aren't really moving your feet all that much to effect anything. As long as you have control and know where your feet you, shouldn't be an issue.

I remember when I had my steel toe boots though. Try driving a stick-shift car with boots like that. Two words: Absolute Nightmare Confused

i dont see a prblem with it as the heels arent to big they are fine as long as you can control the car safely

In Australia it is law to wear flat soled shoes whilst driving. -No heals, no thongs (flip flops), sandals etc. and no bare feet.

Depends on how good a driver you are. You really have to have a good concept of how your foot feels on the pedals, where exactly they are (sometimes if you're an inch off, you're f*cked), and so on. I've always been fine driving in platforms, heels, sandals, and barefoot. Only do it if you're confident that you'll be ok!

I drive in platforms a lot and i've never had any problems, its just like driving a new car for the first few times or whatever, u just need to get used to doing it and u'll be fine. Tell the boyf you're the better driver cos u can manage happily with platforms Very Happy

I drive in all shoes from flats to 5 inch platforms. Its whatever you feel comfortable with. Have a go & if you dont feel comfortable then dont drive in them. But I can assure you any shoes are fine to drive in.
