I would love to know what you people think of the National ID Card scheme.
Is it a good/bad idea?
Is it worth the money?
What will it achieve?
Will it put an end to illegal immigration?
Will it put an end to terrorism?
Will it prevent benefit fraud?
Is it another poll tax?
Will it make Democracy meaningless?
Would you trust anyone else with your personal details?
Do you trust the government and individuals not to misuse your information?
Any comments people? |

| It didnt work the first time around in Britain. Only this time it will work because their is a microchip involved. I personally do not agree with being tracked, and believe its a step towards a Big Brother scenario. There is no need to track human beings, human beings are perfectly fine without this technology. |

As for trusting people with our personal details, werent our details sold on by governments to marketing peeps, hence the hoards of unwanted junk mail we recieve through our doors every day???
Whether terrorism is eradicated by the introduction of ID cards, this makes no difference is there is a corrupt oligarchy in control of the worlds data dont you think? |

A microchip is only any good for tracking whatever it is connected to, Therefore they may be handy for tracing bits of plastic, but people themselves may well be a different proposition.

I myself wonder how many Terrorists interested in martyrdom (And people knowing who they are) are going to be put off by having an ID card. Assuming they have the inclination to shell out £100+ for one in the first place. |

My main reason for thinking they are a bad idea is because if they are successful, this will lead to future developments in microchip technology. The microchip implant has been developed and tested on families in America, Britiain is the last remaining country to introduce I.D cards. technology is gearing towards microchip technology and I.D cards are only paving the way for this eventuality.
People have every right to their freedom, they shouldnt be scared by this facade of a war on terror, when the intial cause for concern was the world trade centre bombings, which are starting to look like a planned demolition. |

yes, but what if it becomes mandatory for you to carry an ID card on journies in the car, train, plane? Its so obviously a tracking system. |

I can't see as it will solve much... It worries me that they want so much personal detail.... Why? All it needs to say is who you are, surley? Isn't that the point... I can see it might help fraud fro a while, until someone cracks it and produces spot on copies... But terrorism?? Nah, these people are willing to die... You can't stop that... Ever.
To me it seems like Tony Blair's creeping dictatorship... |

Well its heading in that direction regardless of our opinions. Have they asked the general public about their opinions on the Biometric chip to be used in passports, ID cards? Have the public being given a vote or have they decided what is best? What about our liberties, our choices? Its totalitarian.
The fact that theyve producing the verichip is worrying enough.  |

There could be loop holes in the law regarding technology. I mean, techgnological innovation is pioneering, the driving force of our civilization. Man isnt destined to be cyborg, this is a one way ticket to slavery.
