Animal: Karrin and I are having a debate. Obviously our opinions differ, but I see no case of name calling. You seem to be the only one who wants to put a confrontational slant on the issue. Funny, considering you're always making a fuss about the fights here. If you don't like debate, then why not stick to shallow posts that require a one word answer, and leave these discussions to people who realise conversation doesn't always mean two members will agree on everything.

Karrin: I've already admitted my ignorance on the MOBO situation.

Re: the beauty contests - Black, and Asians do get "a sniff". I wasn't aware if this was founded before, but despite the flaws in the scenario, Elliot confirmed there have been prize winners.

Of course, you're not interested in that aspect. I simply threw out the example to demonstrate how black people are allowed their exclusive clubs when white people wouldn't be.

Re: Integration. Rex has said so herself that in London, there are several areas that are "no go" areas for whites. It's also been stated that black people are mistrustful of the police force - especially when officers dealing with the case are white. While "ethnic minorities" might be very good at integrating with each other, when it comes to mixing with other people, this is not always the case.

Of course, it works both ways, but when it comes to segregation, black people are certainly not wholly schooled. If they were, then I could enter any area in London that I chose, without fear of being beaten up.

Elliot I don't think I could add to that at all. Smile

How is THAT an insult?

My God, you are paranoid.

If I wanted to insult you, then you'd know about it - unless of course I wanted it to go right over your head.

Why not invest in a dictionary? I predict a more advance vocabulary would mean you might stop getting so offended.

Regardless of whether or not it was directed at me (and we both know it was), the concept of debate still seems to escape you.

Well, HB, I personally do not think that it's fair to say that about black people. You have to remember, in the US there is still a systematic institutionalized racism that is used against them. In the US black people tend not to trust the police precisely because of that. I've written about this before (I'm not sure if you were here at the time), but in New Jersey, there was a history of the police force singling out black people for stopping them for drug traffic searches on the road. It's actually part of their policy handbook. That's why while black people only consist of a small percentage (I think about 30% or so. I'll have to check those numbers) of the Maryland state population, 87% pulled over on the major interstate highways were black. Most of the time, they find nothing.

It runs both ways. Law Enforcement often target certain racial groups, and as a result certain racial groups develop a distrust for the police. It isn't some kind of written law, it's the perception that the police force has on black people as well as the perception of black people in the US.

That's why a large group of black males in the US who want to become successful in the business world have to learn how to speak softly and suppress any signs of an aggressive personality. So, while a white male is free to express his personality in any fashion that he sees fit (within a professional limit, of course), the average black male has to learn to tone that back and put up a facade for people.

It's all a matter of perception, which is part of what white previlige is all about. (outline within the article I have quoted)

This is not to say that it automatically absolves black people of any wrong. No, being mistreated racially does not absolve them of the same crime. Of course black people can be just as racist. But often, you'll see this as a reaction to racism itself. This does not excuse it, but rather it can be seen that there is a causal relationship.

No one is going to change there views and No one is ever going to be wrong.

Being Black and the victim or racism is not the same as being discrimated against because of how you look. Ive said it before. Living in Africa. Only white people can be racist. and there is no such thing as racism towards white people.

This is the way of the world white people F*cked up, Black people got the brund of it and today the word remains one big F*cked up place. But aslong as everyone wants to stay stagnant and not move forward this is how it will be.

And.... See here if you are white you must be sorry for being white even if you yourself have not done anything bad towards another race if you are white you must apologise and realize you must take on ths sins of you forefathers I dont know if other countries understand this.

The only thing I disagree with is the other day there was a big public speach to the "Black Youth" byt a black youth leader said during this speach, you must not steal from your kind becuase you will be treated accordingly and be bewithced. However you may go into the suburbs and take for white people, but do not be violent, this is not a crime bacause you are just taking what is rightfully yours. Now I dont really like this because it is still crime and often there is very bad violence invloved. (the other day this familly where attacked in there home and the strangled the husband to death infront of his wife and kids, they then poured boiling water on the little kids and melted plastic bags onto there skin)

The other thing which can be up setting is here people have to work together. Along with slavery and taking land european people also brought things to africa, cattle etc , technology now Im not saying those things would not have eventually been invented part fo the development of African countries is due people coming into Africa.

I have often heard people here when discussing this matter of race say they where ancestors where taken from Africa etc and therefore have no choice but to be where they do ? Im only asking because Im interrested how many "black" people who live in the UK know there African routes, how often have you visited Africa, do you at all partake in any sort of Aid or charity that contributes to the cause. This is an awarness question, you can sit and debate race all day on the Internet but I really feel everyone (black and white) wholive in the UK do often not realize the value of there life and lifestyles compared to how very difficult living somewhere like here is.

I know this is completelly off the very first post , but that happens

Tamachant, much respect for your insight and your questions... given with respect which is all I ask for

I am going to Ghana , with my family because that is my ancestory and I've been working on my family tree for two years. I think it's imperative that my kids know where they come from

My uncle has decided to live there and open up a school that will be sponsored through my freelance work and my sister's business we will be quite a large sponsor of this school. Also I do financially support a Ghanaian girl privately, not thru an Aid agency, so in answer to your question, I, and not just myself do have awareness and do "put our money where our moths are"

Now what that Youth leader said- So wrong it doesnt even bear thinking about...Mutual respect has been lost on alot of ppl , both Black and White
