Berlin!

Postby sara_heels on Thu Oct 19, 2006 7:03 pm

Hi all.

I am heading to Berlin on the 30th October and was wondering if anyone can give me some tips; what to see and do, what to avoid etc: Thanks! :)

Hi Sara

Been a few years since I was last there, but the Kurfuerstendamm is lively 24 hours a day; Kreuzberg is dog rough but the beer's cheap; Charlottenburg Palace is beautiful; there are loads of good museums; Checkpoint Charlie is something you won't see anywhere else, really; the zoo is a good one; and there are even parts of Berlin that just seem like the countryside, with woods and lakes.

If you haven't got a lot of time, go on a guided tour bus first - if nothing else, it'll help you decide where you want to spend time on this visit AND where you might like to return to one day.

Sara,

Possibly the fuhrer bunker (Adolf Hitler's bomb shelter) is still there.

When I was in Cologne I can remember the cream cakes looking very tempting in the shop windows. Try a few and put on weight.

Hi honey! :D

Ja! Berlin. Was. Wunderball!!!

I went with 2 friends and we had a wonderful time. The transport system was excellent and very useful for getting to all the famous sites. We went on a walking tour with a well informed guide who took us to the Protestant Cathederal, German History Museme, the square, or Platz, where the Nazis burnt all the books, Checkpoint Charlie, the site of Hitler's Furher Bunker, the Holocaust Shrine, Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag. My friends and I later visited these places to see them in more detail as the walking tour went rather quickly. You can go right to the top of the Reichstag and survey the city from a glass dome; the views are superb! We also went to the Olimpia Stadion site of the 1936 Oliimpics and where the World Cup Final was played. It was HUGE!!

And before you ask, yes  , I wore a pair of smart black leather boots w/ 2 inch heels for most of my time there and also a new pair of pointy courts w/ 4 inch heels for a night out we went on. I think they were quite useful in attracting the attention of some VERY handsome German men! Hee hee. :D

You should take your wife to Berlin some time. You'll both have a wonderful time there!

Guttentag for now!!

I loved Berlin, too, and must go back sometime. I even got to sit in the debating chamber of the Reichstag because the politicians weren't there! Fantastic nightlife in Berlin, too.

Hi! :)

We weren't allowed into the chamber which was a pity because the seats looked REALLY comfy! You can see right down into the chamber from the huge dome! It's amazing.
