Thanks again, Mono' :D
It's probably pretty evident that English was my second worst subject at school. That's why I need to rely on my spell checker, my PC dictionary and people like you. lol
ps. Sports was my worst subject as I just didn't see the point in it.

If things are slow after an upgrade, sometimes that means that old configurations and rules are being held in the registry, and are conflicting with the new updates, or you didn't reboot the computer... It's a lot of meticulous work to clean it out of the registry.. but that usually solves the problems...

Sometimes the RAM is too full of old stuff, and needs to be cleaned out by restarting, or by running Cacheman Memory Restore...

Did you run EasyCleaner registry cleaner after the new install?..

Did You run Defrag, or PowerDefrag after the new install?..

It's wise to defrag after your computer has done a lot of work, like installing new softwares, or pix editing, or downloading music and videos... It seems that the computer makes and stores a lot of duplicates of the things you do with it... Registry Cleaners and Defrag cleans out all those messes...

I read that Mozila has a bunch of dictionary downloads, that add to Firefox and Seamonkey... And maybe you can add your own words to those dictionaries, but I'm not sure... Some dictionaries you can add your own words.. with a bit of effort and dedication...

I wish I could instantly add Wilkipedia to my browser's dictionary...

Whenever Spellcheck doesn't have the word, I click new browser tab, and run a search for "define that word", copy it, then click the tab I'm working in, and paste in the correct spelling... For now it's the only way I can see to deal with this little problem...

It's for the novice, who only know how to turn the PC on and off, and that there is a mouse, and a keyboard...

What parts are "rubbish"?.. I'll edit them...

Nothing I haven't mentioned before. All the stuff about registry cleaners & memory utilities.

Registry cleaners are really dangerous for starters, most people who recommend them don't actually know what they do or how they do it. If they did then they would never touch them again.

Using Memory utilities is a *really* bad idea. They work by throwing away data which is "unused" to free up more memory. Keeping your RAM usage down for example means only one thing - when you use the data that you're no longer storing (because you've thrown it away) then you either have to pull stuff in from the harddisk (again) or regenerate it. If your memory usage is that close to the physical ram that you need tools like this then spend the money on making sure you have enough memory, or load less stuff in the first place.

It would be like me painting one wall of my house and then throwing all the equipment (brushes trays etc) away afterwards. Then having to go to the shop to buy new paint and brushes etc before I can paint the next wall or apply a second coat.

In most cases when a computer is slow to do something like shut down, there is a process waiting to close or threads which have closed out of sequence. Settings are not a common problem as old settings are either not referenced and if they are they aren't used. Some code is just slow because there's no way to avoid it...

Oh, and Boingo - another little fact if you're interested...

Dictionaries didn't exist when we colonised North America. The first ever dictionary was produced in the USA (Websters). The Oxford English Dictionary or OED (considered the "daddy" of all english language dictionaries) was not produced until some years later.

Thanks MonoS, but that's how it was five years ago, when those cleaners were in development stages... They've come a long way in five years...

I've tried all the reg cleaners I could download.. and I found a lot of truth in your concerns.. but EastCleaner is very safe for the novice, except for the duplicates cleaner...

Cacheman trashes what's useless, held in the RAM... It's safe as safe can be... It saves frequent rebooting to clean out the RAM...

Both softwares are safe for the expert and the novice...

Then there's Eraser... That's definitely not safe for the novice.. but when someones PC has caught slammer or natas, Eraser is your last option before you must format-C... and if you're lucky, Eraser will dismantle or delete the bug.. or make it so you can recover your treasures to floppy... but the floppys will need an AVS cleanup before they can be opened... Eraser is a last resort...

There are probably others that I haven't heard of... I'll try them as I find them... With the more dangerous cleaners, the key is to know what it is the cleaner suggests should be deleted...

We differ in this... I see cleaners as valuable tools.. you see them as risky and even useless... but then it's likely that you could do all that cleaning manually with a lot of confidence.. but not everyone is a seasoned computer genius as you obviously are...

Have you personally tested CachemanMR, EasyCleaner, and Eraser?..
