SWAPPING VOWS

Postby jlynn on Mon Aug 28, 2006 5:40 pm

What do you think of swapping marriage vows in the wedding ceremony. By this, I mean the man vowing "...to honor and obey..."?

I think its a lovely idea, but not quite realistic.

Why dont you tell us your opinion to get the topic started?

I'm already married for 11 years, and my wife is head of our family. We are thinking about restating our vows, and my idea was to pledge to 'honor and obey' her. I'm also thinking about starting to use her last name, not to legal change my name, but to just start using and adopting hers.

what do you think? Is this crazy?

I dont think thats crazy at all, i think it's a wonderful idea.

I'm studying sociology at the moment, and this completely goes against traditional ways of thinking! And thats fantastic!

It's wonderful that you could honour your wife in that way! I'd say definately re-new your vows, honour the fact that you have been together all this time!

I'm not too sure. I would like my partner to write his own vows! That would be really romantic!

However, I don't feel I could write my own vows, i suppose to make it easier for everyone I'd probably just stick to the traditional vows! :)

I'm in.

For him: I promise to love honor cherish and obey my wife. I will do the dishes, scrub the toilets and never expect my wife to help me carry in the groceries. I will also address all the xmas card envelopes. I will never attempt to have sex without first showing some affection for my wife. And I will never consider a single kiss is to be a show of affection. There will be kissing as in plural and hugging and the utterance of romantic words.

For her:
I can accept those terms.
