Greetings from the Far Side of the Big Pond :-)

It is one of life's ironies that when you DON'T want to get pregnant, you only have have sex once and ZAP! But when you DO want to get pregnant, you could be bumping and grinding away for years!

I'm not an expert but for what it's worth here is my advice:

1) don't be pre-occupied with the mechanics of the "right" position. Have sex WHEN you want to WHERE you want to HOW you want to and so on. Enjoy it!! (For one of my children, we don't even know which one of 5 countries they were conceived in...)

2) don't be pre-occupied with the NEED to get pregnant - it makes you uptight, could make your partner feel pressured and so on. Eat healthily, don't smoke, get lots of exercise, and shag like little bunnies :-)

3) if after several months there is nothing doing, it MIGHT be time to get checked out. A sperm count could be taken (I have a colleague who is unlikely to ever get his wife pregnant unless he gives up smoking due to a very low sperm count), and various tests could be carried out on you. The male tests tend to be less invasive so I'd suggest those first (99.999% of men masturbate hehe)

Hope that helps a little. Good luck.

Lapin.

getting pregnant

Postby katwe on Tue Apr 19, 2005 10:10 am

Timing is important.
You need to have intercourse around the time of ovulation .
Ovulation occurs approx 14 days before your period starts.
If your cycle is regular-easy.
If not ovulation predictors can help.

Visit www.accessdiagnostics.co.uk for a range of ovulation predictors , home fertility tests, fertility vitamin supplements for him & her & early pregnancy tests at great prices.

Hope this helps.

unfortunately hun sometimes its just one of those things a friend of mine and her hubby were both fine fit and healthy but could not conceive yet the doctor said if they had been with other people it would probably be fine. Now thats not to say thats whats wrong with you but sometimes just enjoying each other and forgetting about wanting to get pregnant is the best way.Good luck

unfortunatley that is such a bad myth, one of the ladies on goddessmums or it may be one of the moderators concieved their child on day 3 or 4 after her period I know I remember reading that and thinking OMG I was always told it was day 14. Anyway like I said, good luck to all ttc and all my baby dust is sprinkled on you

It is not a myth.
Ovulation does occur generally 14 days before the period.
You can conceive on day 3 of the cycle either by ovulating early or having intercourse and the sperm surviving inside until an egg comes along.
The greatest success occurs if you time intercourse just before ovulation so their are masses of viable sperm around to fertilise the egg-honest

Thinking of you.

Sperm doesnt live 14 days though and I agree, its a myth that ovulation occours on day 14, with some women its as early as day 3 (as we'ce heard) and with other it can be as late as a few days before they come on. charting your mucus is a much better way of noing when ovulation is happening. we'ce been doing this for 7 months now and although we havent got pregnant yet we have noticed that on 2 months I ovulated on day 9 and there abouts for the others, so all these years we were caught in the 14 day rubish when in fact it was happening much earlier. Good luck to you whatever you do.

I did not say ovulation occured on day 14 if you read my earlier post I said it occurs approx 14 days before the period in most people ie if ovulation occurs on day 3 then the period occurs approx 14 days later-ie day 17-18.

I am 42 and have been charting my somewhat irreg cycle now for 20 plus years and using natural family planning methods .I have not had a single unplanned pregnancy-touch wood, & have had 3 successful conceptions by timing intercourse around ovulation.Even if everything is right ie lots of sperm around when egg is released chance of conceiving is still only about 25%.
If conditions are not right then chances are even lower. To maximise chances have intercourse around ovulation time-whenever that is in your cycle-we are all different.Cervical mucus is also more favourable at that time.

Best of luck.
p.s worth researching on net-search on Google on 'ovulation & conception' & you will find lots of info that may help.

I know this moght sound mad but I fell pregnant with my 2nd when I started taking folic acid. You are advised to take that in the 1st 12 weeks of your pregnancy to help the babies spine develop.
