Got this recurring problem with my laptop. When I am running Internet Explorer the screen often freezes. Nothing will work. Have to switch off and reboot. Have noticed recently that it seems to happen at exactly the same time the fan kicks in.
Have reloaded xp number of times but does not cure it. |

it may be IE. try a different browser. or it could be a sleep issue if it is not just with IE. if so check tthe power management section. |

I found that type of freeze up was caused by Macromedia software, plus a very plugged up hard drive full of gigs of crap duplicate temp files, music and videos...
Go to "My Computer", and set the mouse curser on "C"... What is the capacity, the used, and the free?...
Go to Systems Tools>Cleanup, and run the Windows Cleanup...
Run Scandisk Advanced... In some systems it can take an hour...
Run Defrag...
Reboot...
Go to Run.. Type in regedit, and under the Edit tab do a search and destroy for everything macromedia, and shockwave.. deleting every thing the search finds...
You might want to enhance the cleanup by downloading, and running a couple proven safe softwares, that won PC awards: CCleaner.. Easy Cleaner.. Spybot S&D..
Also, in system tools, go to System Information, and under Tools tab pick File Checker, and replace any missing files with your Windows CD... but don't change the modified files, as they may have been modified by your added softwares...
and run an updated AVS...
In Systems Tools> System Information, run IE Repair...
Reboot...
Now how well is your PC working..?
I do this cleanup for every PC I run into that's having any software troubles... It usually fixes them...
The only thing I avoid in EasyCleaner is the duplicates cleaner... Best to leave that one alone... The rest is safe as can be.. |
