I have very very very very very very very thick hair, and I am frankly sick and tired of it always being short, its so boring! But whenever I grow it, it will simply turn into a huge afro and look rather silly.

I have tried straightening it, but it still remains very strong and thick, and just sticks up as opposed to flopping down. Are there any treatments or special shampoo etc that can be used so i can weaken my hair so it stops curling and sticking up?

I used to buy a cream that straightened my hair (after terribly tight perm)! Unfortunately it was years ago, not sure of the name?
I think it could have been something like 'tweeda hair straightening cream'? I bought it in the UK. It was really good, gave me . straight hair with serious shine. No doubt it was bad for my hair though!
Failing that a good quality conditioner should help calm the curls, you can even wash, condition, and not rinse the conditioner out. I also used to do that and it worked well.
