I had always imagined exchanging rings with my wife on my wedding day and wearing it all the time from that day forward. However, my current job involves working with machinery and the wearing of rings is prohibited on health and safety grounds. As a result, my fiancee is giving me a gold chain whilch I am able to wear around my neck all the time. She has also suggested that we incorporate this into the ceremony - that I should place her wedding ring on her finger then she fastens the chain around my neck. Does anyone know if this is acceptable or has anyone been involved in a wedding ceremony where something other than a ring has been exchanged?

P.S. - my best man is absolutely in favour of this idea as it means that neither he nor I will have to wear a tie!

I think that's a great idea. Weddings are for the couple, so I think anything you both agree on is acceptable. I once went to a wedding where the bride made a speech, also different from the norm, and refreshing too.

The other thing you could do is to have a wedding ring, but to hang it on the chain.

Thanks. I got married last summer and, after some looking around, settled on a silver and diamond pendant on a black cord. The minister was really good and allowed us to alter the words in the service so that I said 'with this ring' and my wife said 'with this token'.
