Generally being hacked is so a stranger can copy your business files...
To experience being hacked, set up a file on your desktop, in your documents, with a couple hundred megs of pictures, then go into a few of those places where you can report a child sex crime... Suddenly your computer will be locked out of your controls, and will go through all its files, like it's making a copy of them all, and you won't be able to stop it with the mouse nor keyboard... Only way to stop it is to cut the power to the computer...
Hacked is someone at the controls of your computer, via the Internet...
A hacker can totally destroy your PC's operating system in just a couple seconds.. especially if you are running it as administrator, don't have a firewall, don't use passwords, and play-in unscrupulous websites... But most people's computers aren't at risk to being hacked, unless they possess data the corporate world needs to steal...
If you have such valuable data, run it only on a computer that is never connected to the Net.. like in how I do my research updates on flying car's liquid electricity engines, in a computer that doesn't have a modem... but still the goonies try and try to rob stuff from my PC daily... All they get is a few pix of naked ladies, and copies of my bitchin' posts to the world to stop wrecking the planet so fast... They never get into the science computer.. They can't... Not without up close and personal with guns, and even then it's iffy... So a few try to remote view data from private minds.. but that's extremely dangerous these days.. it can seriously backfire on them... If you are interested in advanced mind-stuff, do some research on "remote viewing".. but expect to have a few sleepless nights, weeks, maybe even months.. depending upon how tasty you are to the parasites...

The PC catching a virus is totally different story... A virus does things like infect, corrupt, and disrupt, functions, systems files, and operations...
Generally your computer will tell you it has caught a virus, at reboot...
If your PC catches the real baddy viruses, like "natas", you might be able to reboot it about four times if you're lucky, then the virus kills all your access to the system... Maybe you'll be able to get in to safe mode a couple times, to get your treasures onto floppies, but CD's won't function... nor will most of your programs... This is when you need to try all the tricks out there, just to save your treasures, before you erase the hard disk, and reload the operating system and your favorite programs... This can take about ten to twenty hours...
________
Glitches are another irritation... In Windows 98, Macromedia and Shockwave are extremely aggressive... They cause lockups and shutdown problems... Macromedia stuff is just too powerful for some older operating systems... If you are experiencing this kind of problem glitch, you need to eliminate macromedia and shockwave from the operating system, by running CMDiskCleaner to do a custom search for macromedia and shockwave, then delete only the custom search items CM found, and reboot...
________
There is another nasty that can infect your PC, should you play in German hacker kid sites... Their sport is having fun by destroying people's PC's operating systems, forcing them to spend the money and time reloading the system... It's just vandalism... They'll lure naive innocents into their attractive little forums with key words... Once in, all they need you to do is click on a hidden switch, and your PC's system is history...
________
There's a lot more to this hacker, and virus business... You should search it all on the Net...
