Dear Mr. Bush,

Thank you for declaring war on terrorism. I agree that fighting terrorism is very important. After all, no one really wants terrorists disrupting little league baseball games, gymnastics meets, and trips to the grocery store. I'm sure you've made great progress in making the world a safer place for all of us, especially the children. And I'm sure everyone would really like to help and do their part. There are a few things, however, that I am unclear about. Perhaps you can clarify them for me.

During hurricane Katrina, or whenever there is a blackout in a major city in the United States, there are lots of looters stealing TV's and food from local stores. Some of the looters carry guns. I am not an expert, but these people seem to be causing terror. Are the looters the terrorists, or are the police who shoot at them terrorists? How come the war on terrorism does not extend to looters?

There is a bully in my neighborhood. He terrorizes the other kids. Is he a terrorist-in-training or the real thing? Should I call the police and ask them to shoot him? It seems shooting him would be a pre-emptive action.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad always threatens to destroy Israel, and wipe it off the map. Does that make him a terrorist? Or does he have to attack some country fiirst before he is classified as a terrorist? Personally, I think he would fall under the category of a virgin terrorist, because he hasn't penetrated any country yet. Perhaps you should just shoot him anyway. Then Ahmadinejad can have 72 virgins in his next life, and Israel would be saved. Sounds like a win-win situation for everyone involved.

Mr. Kim in North Korea seems to like to torture his own people. I think that makes him a terrorist, but I could be wrong. Maybe he is just evil, since you said he is part of the axis of evil. If he tortured the Middle Eastern terrorists, would that make him a terrorist? Or would it make him your friend? Either way, you'd better be careful. The Koreans invented Tai Kwon Do. They think you invented Bush beer. Tai Kwon Do beats Bush beer every time. Anyway, I don't think Mr. Kim likes you.

You say China is one of the biggest violators of Human Rights. Does that make the Chinese government terrorists, even though they are only terrorizing their own people? Why do you give a "Most Favored Nation" trade status to one terrorist country, and bomb another? It must be very hard for you to decide. Is it because they don't export their terrorism like the Middle Eastern countries do? Or, are you afraid the Chinese will bomb you back? You know, the Chinese have nuclear weapons too. And there are more Chinese than Americans, so they're probably not too scared of America. And besides, you don't see the Chinese moving to the United States as fast as the Mexicans. Maybe the Chinese know something the Mexicans don't.

Speakng about the Chinese government, they are now oppressing the Dalai Lana. The Dalahi Lama (I don't think that's his real name) seems to be a really nice and peaceful guy. I don't think Mr. Lama poses too much of a threat to any one. It seems to me he sits around and meditates all day long. That doesn't leave much time to make bombs. Again, I could be wrong, but meditation doesn't really seem like a terroristic activity. Perhaps you should consider a preemptive strike on China too. Keep in mind that they will probably not like the idea.

Mr. Bush, you once called Democracy "Terror's Antidote". The democratic process was used in Palestine. The people voted, and Hammas won, forming a brand new Democracy, That makes them, according to you, Terror's Antidote. That should have made you very happy. Then you refused to negotiate with them. I don't understand. I'm sure they don't understand either. They were elected by the democratic process, just like you wanted. Are you saying a democracy, like Hammas or your country, can be terroristic? Please explain.

I remember when a war was declared on crime. We still have crime, so I guess that war was lost. Then there was the war on poverty. And the war on drugs. Are these wars still going on? I don't think any of them have been won yet, but I could be wrong. Now we have a war on terrorism. There seems to be a pattern here, mostly like a pattern of never ending and never winning. Don't ya think?

I have a Samurai sword, Nunchucks, knives, and some throwing stars, but I do not have a gun. If someone breaks into my house, which one should I use to stop them? I can stop them pretty effectively with any of the weapons, but I think using the Samurai sword and knives might make me a terrorist, but not the Nunchucks. I'd hate to be classified as a terrorist. If I have to kill them, it looks like the Samurai sword or throwing stars would be the best option. Which one should I use? Please keep in mind that I don't want too much blood all over my home.

Thank you very much for helping me understand these things. I am sure you have great insight into these matters. I am looking forward to your answers.

Tell the kids to fight back.
Tell them to look towards Bush for a good example.

One man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter.

Nelson Mandela was regarded as a terrorist, as was Menahem Begin. While I am not suggesting for one moment that all terrorists should be regarded as future statesmen, politicising their cause does tend to solve a lot of problems. As Gerry Adams has discovered, it's a great thing to talk about taking power, but no picnic when someone gives it to you.

Don't you try and control people's lives Fred?

Aren't the ones who challenge you fighting for freedom?

Roflmao!

Um, no.

Terrorism is "the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion."

This entire post is too funny!

If you just don't understand a topic or a word, usually it's best to look it up before declaring your lack of knowledge to the world!

Terrorism is about specifically targeting innocents.

If you read the post again - go slowly and you might understand some of the longer words - you will see that I did not seek to define terrorism. Had I done so, I might have included excerpts from Noam Chomsky, Gianfranco Sanguinetti, or Robert Dreyfus, all of whom, unlike you, have an opinion worth hearing on the subject.

"Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!"

It was an impassioned, heartfelt rant. Just, unfortunately, completely mistaken.

Terrorism is a real word. It has an actual meaning. By no stretch of the imagination would Nelson Mandela ever fit that actual definition. People can call anyone anything. Many people have called Bush a terrorist, with the same disregard for actual reality. That's one of the wonderful things in life -- people are free to call anyone anything they want!

But hey, as you said, I'm nobody, my opinion is worthless to you! So please, continue on, rant away. I assume you enjoy it, so please do carry on!

Smile
