The health watchdog have now changed its advice on how much pregnant women can safely drink.

Seems fairly fecking obvious to me that if there is ANY doubt about what is safe to do or not whilst pregnant then you would err on the side of caution and NOT do it (Just like the 'safe' amount you can drink before driving - there is NO safe amount DO NOT DRINK IF YOU ARE DRIVING!)

If you are willing to carry a baby for 9 months it is your duty to cut out all the potential health hazards YOU bring to that child i.e drinking, smoking, drugs, dangerous sports *whatever*.

Myself and my partner who is 14 weeks pregnant asked the doctor yesterday about this. In my opinion no alcohol is the best resort even if there is a 1 in a million chance of it doing damage but the doctor said a couple of glasses of wine a week will not make any difference at all and alcohol does not deform or effect your baby that way, it comes out alcohol dependant if you drink too much. You can get fetal alcohol syndrome which is if the mother drinks to oblivion all the time whilst pregnant but other then that a couple of drinks a week to help keep the mother sane will not make any difference.

Not my words the words of the specialist maternity doctor.
