My comment unfortunately did not get printed after the quotation. This is what I wrote:

I have a friend who used to be a health visitor. She told me that she also found the cups of tea a problem. She worked in an urban/suburban area where public loos were virtually non-existent. She always carried spare knickers in her car because on a number of occasions she had been so desperate that she wet herself.

I have a SERIOUS phobia of getting caught short like her,Jenny.
I only drink, tea, coffee, sugary drinks, acidic drinks (e.g. pure fruit juice) when i'm at home in the evening. At school,i have an aversion to the school facilities,so i cut out ALL liquids, water, basic juice, everything.Basically,i do the daftest thing-purposely De-hydrating myself! Rolling Eyes but it can't be helped if i have a phobia of getting caught short.
A lot of schools lock the toilets. One school i went to,the teachers locked every toilet (apart from the staff toilets) for the entire 6 hours and that was in secondary school.Good job i was spitting feather's,else i really would have had a HUGE issue on my hands lol Razz

I go by...

What you don't put in,can't come out Wink

catonia, it's important to put your health first, and that means drinking healthy amounts as well as peeing (within reason) when you need to. Why are you so worried about using toilets away from home? If it's a hygiene issue, it may be worth considering that the average toilet seat contains considerably fewer germs that a domestic chopping board. If you're worried about cleanliness though you could always buy some antiseptic wipes to run over the seat beforehand if necessary.

Or you could carry one of those spout devices made for ladies. Why do the teachers lock the toilets? Did some students hide in there between breaks? Dehydration is a killer, literally!

Have no idea why they lock them.

I'm ok with public toilets,it's just school toilets,as rough kids gather to smoke and in case they pick on me.
My only fears are needing to go when there's no toilets for miles, school toilets, teachers saying NO,actually asking permission to go or getting trapped or locked in anywhere and needing to go.

I drink loads in the evenings though. When i'm at home watching tv i drink plenty of water.I once was watching tv and drank nearly 2 liters to get my system working normally after a school day.

Well, if wetting yourself in your car is undesirable, has it occured to anyone what pilots and passengers of light aircraft on flights of long duration do?? Light aircraft are not built with any toilets on board and due to strict aviation regulations, you can't just fall 10,000 feet and land anywhere!! Us pilots have specially made rubber bottles with a hose and an attachment for women or men for peeing into. There's NO WAY I'm going to open the door of an aircraft at 10,000 feet to have a pee!!! So quite honestly I can't see the problem of peeing in your car, so long as it's done relatively hygeinically.

Another male viewpoint. There used to be a law emanating from horse-and-cart days that allowed you to urinate against the front offside wheel of your vehicle, I don't think it's ever been repealed.

One of the problems of advancing age is that I can go from comfortable to desperate in ten minutes, so if I'm going on a long drive I refrain from drinking for at least an hour before I start out and empty my bladder immediately before the journey, I then sustain myself with mint imperials - I average about 40 miles to the mint. That way I can manage a 6 hour drive- just!

The problem is the complete lack of facilities on our roads. I have often had to leave a main road and find a quiet country lane so that my dear wife could do the business. The worst occasion was when we were going on holiday and my stupid electronic navigator routed me through the motorways around Birmingham (yes, there's a similar post elswhere) We found ourselves stopped in the righthand lane and going nowhere. After a while of crawling forward a few feet she announced that she needed the loo. Her cries became more and more desperate and I became more and more stressed as I didn't want her peeing on my leather seats - it may be sterile, but it smells! I could see a 1/2 mile exit board up ahead so I indicated left and with luck and help from the surrounding motorists I made my way across to the inside lane, then roared down the hard shoulder to the exit; down the sliproad to the roundabout at the bottom and there was a garage. A close-run thing.

Pilot 737's post about aircraft reminded me that in Beaver aircraft we had a p-tube, a funnel that was connected via a rubber tube to an exit under the aircraft. Digressing slightly there was an occasion when an arab sheik was seen giving instructions to the pilot into the funnel. Anywaaayyyyy, on my boat when I'm sailing single handed (my wife hates the sea) I don't like going below for a pee as ships, other boats, buoys etc can come up quickly. So I rigged up my version of the Beaver p-tube, a funnel connected to a 1" tube which I feed down the cockpit drain. Perhaps you ladies who have problems like this could copy the idea? With the tube leading into a bottle of course. It could be hidden away and come out only when necessary.

My apologies for butting into your thread.

Incidentally, I found the attitude of the health worker eminently sensible, as was the gentleman who passed by. I would have raised my hat.

My nana once had to go behind a hedge because my grand-dad's car broke down on the motor way and they were stuck there for hours.
Once help arrived, she told them what she'd done and they said that one of their female Co-workers once had to go behind a hedge, but she ended up getting fined and a night in jail. Shocked

Her friend was cacking her pants, worrying about her posh car seat Laughing

I'm confused about what Fabiana said about it being un-natural.Does she mean you're supposed to be able to hold it until your bladder bursts or what??? Confused

Like a lot of people I am surprised by the extreme position taken by Fabiana. Firstly, given a long enough wait, it can be impossible to not pee. Secondly, circumstances on a motorway can conspire against you. I can illustrate this with an experience a colleague of mine had. She set off on a trip on a motorway in the winter only to get stuck in a horrendous jam because of a major accident in snowy conditions. After many hours she was desperate for a pee. She got out of the car and considered peeing by the roadside, but she could not bring herself to do it. Now this is no shrinking violet. She is a confident and forthright woman, but she said she wasn't going to bare herself in public. She got back in the car, and shortly aftrwards the traffic started to move. She had just got off onto a slip road when the traffic locked down again. Finally she couldn't do anything to stop it and involuntarily wet herself - the whole contents of her bladder just poured out.

The interesting thing is that when she took the car to be valeted, the guy said "We get this all the time - maybe a couple a month". As my colleague said, probably most of these are women who have no options beteen partially stripping and peeing in full view of loads of people and wetting themselves in the car.

I guess I'm lucky being a guy. I would just pull over and pull it out and pee if it was that bad. However, you girls got it bad. If you want to pee, you're either bending over and exposing everything, or you are flooding your pants. The first one gives everyone a show though, lol Very Happy
