| why do men react so badly when asked to learn to drive. Is it because they feel threatened? When a girl says to her boyfriend they arent saying it to bully or threaten anyone, theyre saying it to help and get you mobile. |

When I come across Men who cant drive, I think there's something wrong.
They're likely to be lentil munching sandal wearing brainwashed greenies-whom i cant stand and are the sheepish scurge of the planet.
Mrs Thatcher once said that a man who finds himself taking the bus with no car over the age of 23 can consider himself a failure.
Bring those days back! Now all we have is chav scum and failures who are proud of being failures! |

Not only can I drive cars, trucks, tractors and some heavy machinery;
I also enjoy riding - I can ride horses and bicycles (my preference is for mountain bikes, as I live close to the bush here - easy to head for the hills...) reasonably competently, whilst my motorcycling is probably akin to Drew's car driving...

| Men who don't drive are weak minded wimps. Any self respecting man would want to be the driver. Women belong in the passenger seat. |

There seems to be plenty of reasons why some men don't or won't - or shouldn't - drive :
* lack of opportunity;
* lack of resources, (usually financial..);
* no need - most people living in big cities really don't need cars, nor motorcycles or scooters - desiring one (for your image, or 'social cache'..) isn't the same as 'needing' one;
*lack of aptitude;
*poor attitude;
*physically or mentally incapable..
That minority of people above coming down so nastily and heavily on the non-drivers out there, really are showing themselves to be an intolerant, small minded and ignorant bunch of yobs in this discussion...

| If you genuinely give a S*** or feel the need to judge people who chose not to drive (male or female) then any sadness here belongs with you. Really, get a life. What a bland and stupid discussion. |

My instant reaction when I learn that someone can't/doesn't drive is the thought that they must be banned for drunk driving or worse, and this gives me a immediate dislike of them.
This is despite the fact that as a then urban dweller I didn't feel the need to learn to drive myself until my late twenties. |
If you live in the boon docks, I can see you hold your retatded views. |

| Women only make an issue of men not being able to drive, when men are leeching lifts of them without paying for petrol. There is nothing worse than a guy who expects lifts everywhere and won't stick his hand in his pocket. It's both rude and lazy. |

but you shouldn't even have to ask, they should offer, especially if it's a short trip to France. |

All people behave differently and have different morals and things they give a S*** about. If in your car you wish people to pay for petrol then ask for it. I agree to get a lift to France and not offer is downright rude (and not gender specific) but we can only control ourselves at the end of the day. Ask for what you need or take the risk of not getting it. I'm hope you asked for it at some point? |

I always ask for petrol money, but some people have a habit of making you feel tight for asking. It's not the money it's the principle and people who can't drive, don't pay insurrance and maintain cars, have no idea, yet they'd happily pay a taxi driver. There's no difference. |
