Modified Cars?

For me its not a matter of whether a car is modded or not, its how and why its modded.

I really only go for modifications that are purposeful - exhaust, air intake, injectors, valve springs, suspension, wheels, tyres and body work that improves the improves handling or the passage of cool air to brakes, intercoolers and air intake. If the manufacturer got it right there is little to mod.

Pet hates in the mods department are fake bonnet scoops, the use of performance exhausts components fitted for the sole purpose of drawing attention to an otherwise complete under-performer and ill-fitted, mis-shaped body kits.

yes - but what is the point of putting body kits on the car that are designed to improve air flow over the car and improve its handling characteristics if the extra weight has slowed the car down to the point where they don't work anyway unless its having its tits ragged of at 60 in 4th gear? stupid air splitters on the front of cars that knock the ground every time it goes over a speed bump! a lowered car so low it grounds out going over a speed bump

the modifications should match the car - a full body kit will do very little for most fast cars. whats it going to do on a shitty 1.1i?! NOTHING!

Ok here's my 2 cents. I've been modding my car for the past two years now. It's a 2001 2.2L Cavalier, Sedan no less. It has full body kit, Cold air intake, 17 inch tires, CAT back exhaust, custom hood, custom paint, air brush graphics, custom painted interior, Vert doors (front) suicide doors (rear), flip flop trunk, and half a dozen other things that I don't want to bore anyone with. Why did I do it??? Why the hell not it's my car. Did it add weight??? Probably. Does the car handle any different??? Nope. Does the fuel consumption suck??? No more than it did before the mods. What a person does with thier cars is a personal thing. If someone is happy driving around in a S*** box, fine as long as their happy. If a person is happy driving a stock station wagon, more power to them. I had an affordable daily driver that I wanted to make personal, something that would stand out of the rest of the thousand like vehicles out there. What has the body kit done for my car. Nothing but esthetics. But it has won awards at various car shows in Canada. It started as a daily driver, and it still is. And as for dumbest question on the post about why drive. Well let me tell you something friend. Speed isn't everything, I'm a police officer by profession. You wanna go fast go to the track. It's really not worth the ticket. And believe me, nothing will drive your insurance rates up faster than a few charges on you record.

Modded cars can be pretty cool, but only if they're done right.

Example: things like tinted windows, cold air intakes, suspension jobs, Euro spec seats, turbos, carbon fiber hoods, and tasteful body kits can make a car look (and feel!) pretty damn good.

But upturned exhaust pipes? SO overrated, and far from practical! And then there's those cheap looking body kits that you know someone with no experience put on. Another thing is wings. . . some look great and give a car a sporty edge, but others are too exaggerated to be taken seriously.

You also have to be careful about underbody kits. Solid colours, when installed right, can look good. There are, however, a surprising number of people who feel the need to get kits that flash 5 different colours like some kind of incessant rainbow strobe. That's a bit too much for me.

I'd still check the scoop on the WRX before assuming it is anything but decoration. Most manufacturers feed air for intake and intercooling through the front bumper.. there's more room, it's cooler and there's more pressure there than sitting on top of the engine.

Scoobs don't have a front mounted intercooler, it's mounted on top of the engine hence why the air intake is there.
