Ok - so Bush was starting to lose his shine for the American people - too many US soldiers killed in Iraq, looking like it was turning into another Vietnam, people held without charge indefinately at Guantanamo Bay (nothing like denying people their civil liberties while invading countries under the pre-text of freeing people to give them their civil liberties and apologising when you blow up entire families by accident (and occasionally on purpose), stories coming back about war atrocities perpetrated by American troops, never did find any evidence of WMD's, the obvious next target of Iran (well, the oil pipeline the oil companies are trying to build would cost less and have a more direct line if you had control over Iran too ya know - I said that would happen before it did, just from looking at the oilpipe path).

Soooooooo, waddaya do when you are losing support? Well, arrest a bunch of people who allegedly had a 'desire' to blow up the sears tower - but were in possession of no means to do so - but the FBI guy they sent in to spy of these wannabe terrorists said 'they would if they could of - really'. So, next thing you see is pretty much two messages repeated over and over and over again on the news (ya see, if you say it enough times people will just make immediate associations and then all of a sudden it becomes fact), namely being:

al qaeda al qaeda al qaeda al qaeda al qaeda al qaeda

AND

Sears tower Sears tower Sears tower Sears tower Sears tower

So, what effect does this have on the psyche of the American people and the world? 'We saved you from another 9/11 - see, aren't we doing the right thing by denying people of their civil liberties cos this could have happened'. Now Osama is saying he is going to release a video next week that says 'these guys have nothing to do with us'. I would tend to believe that - the guy seems far to ballsy to lie. And they are playing it a bit safe by saying these guys 'wanted to be affiliated with al qaeda'.

The thing that strikes me over and over and over again is just how terribly opportune such events have been for Bush over the course of his career. When his popularity is down, something conveniently happens that rallies support for him again - making his actions seem necessary. Isn't he just the luckiest guy? And all these actions just happen to push the oil prices up, which just happens to line the pockets of him and all his oil cronie affiliates. I just smell a big fat rat. Confused

So my question is this - if Bush moved out of power, and was replaced by say - oh um - a democrat - wouldn't it be strange if all of these big terrorist scares really just faded back to the far smaller level they were at before Bush got into power?
