Someone I know has bought a Geforce 7300 graphics card recently and tried plugging it into the slot and turning the computer on and got the following error message

"921-device in pci express slot failed to initialise"

His computer meets all the system requirements and he can't install the drivers because his computer is not recognising the new graphics card, just the onboard graphics. Does anyone know what his problem could be?

the first question is, how are you able to see the error message?

which VGA plug is the monitor plugged into? onboard or the new video card?

if its plugged into the 7300 does the computer boot OK and POST properly?

if so, does the windows desktop look normal, or is it running on low colour/resolution settings?

need more information to diagnose a problem like this

Have you disabled the onboard gfx in BIOS?

Also try connecting the VGA cable to the new gfx card and not the original (on board) VGA 'card'.

Also when does the message appear during the boot process?

shouldnt need to disable it in BIOS, most mainboards will automatically do this

as for plugging the VGA cable into the 7300, i asked this before, obviously a new video card aint gonna do much good if it has nothing plugged into it
