Celebrities And Their Phobias

1 month ago 10th Oct 14:13

Cheryl Cole this week revealed she has a phobia of cotton wool.

The Girls Aloud star confessed the phobia in the group's autobiography, Dreams That Glitter.

"I hate cotton wool," she said. "I went to the dentist the other day and he put it in my mouth and I felt violated for the whole day.

"I never use it, not for taking makeup off or anything. Even when I get my nails done they use tissues. Just the feel of it... it squeaks. Urgh. I can't bear it."

So it seems that celebrities are human after all. We take a look at some other phobias from the world of showbiz.

Christina Ricci suffers from a very specific phobia, pool - selachophobia: she's scared that a shark might swim through a hatch in the side of a swimming pool.

Johnny Depp is unlucky enough to suffer from not one, not two, but three different phobias.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star is arachnophobic, plasmophobic and most strangely coulrophobic. That means he's afraid of spiders, ghosts and clowns! He says, "There's something about the painted face and the fake smile. There seems to be a darkness lurking under the surface, a potential for real evil".

Billy Bob Thornton has phobias of bright colours (chromaphobia). He also apparently refuses to say his childrens' names out loud for fear of cursing them!

Fear of flying is common among celebs including Colin Farrell, Jennifer Aniston and Wayne Rooney.

Wayne's phobia has seen his team mates nickname him Mr. T - after the character from the hit 1980s TV show The A-Team, who was famously afraid of flying.

England teammate Jamie Carragher, 30, reveals the monicker in his book after describing how the 22-year-old’s wailing drowned out the cries of the women and children on a turbulent flight in 2006.

He said: "I'd never heard howling like it."
