Rom-com king Ashton Kutcher

10-05-2008 08:15

Ashton Kutcher has got playing the hapless lover down to a fine art.

In his latest movie 'What Happens in Vegas', in which he stars opposite Cameron Diaz, he plays a man wrangling for a $3 million Las Vegas-won fortune with a woman he married after a drunken night of debauchery.

When it comes to playing love for laughs Kutcher is fast becoming a master, but the trials and tribulations of his on screen persona are not reflected in real life. Against all showbiz gossip predictions he has been happily married to 'Ghost' star Demi Moore since 2005.

Despite the fact that at 30 he is 15 years Moore's junior, they appear to have created their own form of domestic bliss along with her daughters from her marriage to Hollywood hardman Bruce Willis - actress Rumer, 19, 16-year-old Scout and 14-year-old Tallulah. They have even been known to join Bruce on summer holidays, with the two men reportedly becoming good friends.

Despite his tendency to play the fool - honed over 183 episodes of playing the dim-witted Michael Kelso in hit US sitcom 'That '70s Show' from 1998 until 2006 - Kutcher seems to possess a maturity beyond his years. In 2003, at the relatively tender age of 25, he set up his own production company, Katalyst Films. The company has enjoyed huge success, most notably with the star-baiting MTV show 'Punk'd', which sees Kutcher wind-up unsuspecting celebrities. Katalyst Films has also been responsible for such classic hangover reality TV as 'Beauty and the Geek'.

Both professionally, and personally, Kutcher's sensible actions belie his comically dopey image.

Hinting at his mature approach to life, he comments: "People keep asking me what it was like turning 30, but I think the number is sort of inconsequential. I know a lot of 40-year-olds that act like 10-year-olds. I think they should change the measure from how long you've been here to how much responsibility you have. That should be the age barometer."
