What We Wore...1987:Cycling Shorts

4 months ago 29th Jul 14:15

Cycling shorts made the leap from saddle to high street in 1987 and even the biggest of backsides squeezed themselves into a pair of the lycra monstrosities.

The most trendy 80s cycle shorts were in neon colours- the brighter the better- and were worn with a short top to show off as much body as possible.

The cycling shorts were hailed as the hotpants of the 80s and everyone from kids to supermodels were wearing them- although not many would admit to it these days.

The main problem with the lycro cycle shorts was the fact they were so unforgiving and even the slightest fat roll or bum dimple was made even more visible- but this didn't seem stop some people proudly displaying the bits of them we really didn't want to see.

Luckily the trend didn't stick around long and cycle shorts were off on their bike before 1988 arrived.
