Graduate Fashion Week Is Bigger Than Ever

2 months ago 16th May 11:52

Graduate Fashion Week has been responsible for discovering the likes of Stella McCartney and Julien MacDonald in the past and this year it's set to be bigger than ever.

"It's the 14th year now," explains fashion writer and host of this year's show Caryn Franklin, "There are going to be 49 colleges exhibiting there work so we can expect to see the best of British graduation talent."

More than 1000 of the finest fashion students from university and college courses across the UK will be showcasing their work atEarls Court 2 this June in the hopes of bagging some well-deserved recognition.

"Britain has a massive fashion industry that exports creativity around the world." says Caryn, "So it will be a place where national and international employers will come to cherry pick the people that they think should be working for them."

This year there are even more opportunities for rising style stars to find out about the industry and what part they might play in it as GFW launches it's first ‘Education Day’ for younger students,

"I'm really pleased that this is in place because it appeals to students between the ages of 14 and 18 who might be interested in a career in the fashion industry but might not know the bredth of jobs available or what qualifications they need," says Caryn.

There will be loads of fun and educational activities taking place on the day including careers clinics, fashion shows and even speed dating.

"We've got a quick speed dating type thing where they can book in a 5 minute chat with any one from the industry from an art director to a fashion journalist to find out what it's all about," says Caryn, "It's about them understanding that fashion is massive and fashion design is actually only one small part of it."

"We've got 150 schools registered so far but individuals can come too. Under 16s need to bring an adult and it's £25 a ticket."
