The perfect wife is feisty and thrifty

Men still depend on their wives for help with details like remembering their mother’s birthday – sited as very important by half (50%) of men. Only 9% of men today are impressed with women who regularly bake cakes. Most men (84%) believe both sexes should share household chores (while 65% of women assume the average man thinks it should be left to the girls). Not all the wisdom from the 1950s should be dismissed. The advice to “never complain if he comes home late or goes out to dinner or other places of entertainment without you” still stands, with over half (57%) of men saying time alone with friends is of the utmost importance. While few men today would ask their wives to “speak in a low, soothing voice” 33% are irritated by women talking through their favourite TV show or film. The 1950s tip to “clear up the clutter in preparation for your husband’s return”, should still be heeded, with being messy sited as the top irritant by men (47%).
