Peter Phillips' Canadian wedding

31-07-2007This Month 31st Jul 13:00

Britain's Queen Elizabeth's grandson could marry in Canada.

Peter Phillips - the 29-year-old son of Princess Anne and ex-husband Mark Phillips - is set to become the queen's first grandchild to get married following the announcement of his engagement to Montreal-born Autumn Kelly over the weekend.

Royal observers have now suggested that the couple's nuptials, which are set for 2008, could be held in 31-year-old Autumn's home country instead of the UK.

Joe Little, managing editor of Britain's Majesty Magazine, told Canada's globeandmail.com website: "I can't see why they wouldn't get married in Canada. It's a guessing game, really. This is very different - there are two continents involved. The mould may be broken for this one."

Little added that if the ceremony does go ahead in Canada, it is likely that the queen would be unable to attend because of the logistical and security issues that would arise from holding a royal wedding abroad.

However, the couple - who have been dating for four years - are more likely to stick to royal protocol and get married in the UK.

It is expected that the ceremony will take place at the queen's Berkshire residence Windsor Castle, in the St George's Chapel.
