Zara Phillips' portrait

1 month ago 23rd Jul 14:00

Britain's Zara Phillips unveiled a giant portrait of herself yesterday (23.07.08).

Zara - granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth - is depicted in a four metre high image as part of an exhibition celebrating adventurers who have excelled in their chosen fields.

The 27-year old's likeness joins those of Archbishop of Cape Town, Desmond Tutu, the marine explorer Fabien Cousteau and the first black woman in space, Dr Mae Jemison. The pictures are being displayed at London's Royal Geographical Society.

Speaking at the exhibition, Zara praised the "amazing photographs".

There are many different ways of interpreting 'adventure' and the people that have been photographed stand for a huge range of meanings of the word.

She added: "There are many different ways of interpreting 'adventure' and the people that have been photographed stand for a huge range of meanings of the word."

The ten giant pictures on display in 'Portraits Of Adventure' have been created by Alastair Thain using an ultra-high-definition camera similar to the one used by Nasa to capture images of the earth from space.

The free exhibition - which also includes 50 other pictures of politicians, rock climbers and rock stars - runs until August 3.
