Jane Danson has given birth to a baby son.

‘Coronation Street’ star Jane gave birth to her second son, Alfie Sam Robert, in the early hours of this morning (27.20.09). The baby weighed 7lbs 5oz.

Jane’s labour was induced during a pre-planned visit to a Manchester hospital, contradicting earlier reports she had been rushed to the clinic to have the baby, originally due in March.

A spokesperson for ‘Coronation Street’ told website Digitalspy: "Jane wasn't rushed to hospital. Instead, she attended an appointment to induce her pregnancy which had been arranged for a couple of weeks."

Jane, 30, and her husband, Robert Beck, both star in the soap playing Leanne Battersby and Jimmy Dockerson respectively. They already have one son, Harry Alexander Jack, two.

Jane's baby is the fourth born to a 'Coronation Street' cast member in the last month.

Alison King – who plays Carla Connor – gave birth to daughter Daisy Mae two weeks ago. Jack P. Shepherd - tearaway David Platt in the soap - became a father to daughter Nyla Rae later in the same week, as did Wiki Dankowska – factory worker Wanda Opalinska – who had son Rafal.

Meanwhile, Kym Marsh has returned to filming just two weeks after the death of her baby son.

Archie Jay – Kym's child with 'Hollyoaks' star Jamie Lomas – died after he was born 18 weeks early on February 11.

A source said: "Kym is devastated but wanted to get back to work and try and start getting back to normal.

"We're very careful to make sure she doesn't do too much. She's been through so much. Her friends on the show are being an enormous source of comfort."
