Cheryl Cole's X Factor Tears

Monday 31st August 2009 - 13:00:29

Cheryl Cole was reduced to tears on last night's (29.08.09) episode of 'The X Factor'.

The judge couldn't contain her emotions during cabinet maker Daryl Markham's audition, for which he performed 'I Don't Want To Talk About It' by Crazy Horse.

Before singing, Daryl, 40, revealed he had been planning to try out last year but the audition clashed with his brother's wedding. Just weeks later his sibling had died after being diagnosed with lung cancer.

Daryl tearfully said: "I applied to come on the show last year but the audition was on the same day my brother was getting married and I was his best man. Shortly after the wedding, my brother was diagnosed with lung cancer - he died six weeks later.

I didn't know if you were going to carry on with the audition after getting so emotional but I believed every word you sang.

"We were inseparable - best friends. We had a business together, all of his tools are still there. I look after his boy, Kian. I have to be strong for him. That's why I'm here today - to make him proud."

His performance received a standing ovation from the audience, and a visibly upset Cheryl praised him, saying: "I didn't know if you were going to carry on with the audition after getting so emotional but I believed every word you sang."

But Daryl wasn't the only male performer to impress the judges. Jamie Archer - a hard-working 33-year-old club singer who goes by the name of Jamie Afro because of his haircut - wowed everyone with his rendition of Kings of Leon's hit 'Sex on Fire'.

Upon completing the song, Simon Cowell said: "You're fearless and you know how to perform."

Another act that impressed the judges - Simon, Cheryl, Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue - was girl group Miss Fitz, who contained a familiar face.

The trio is made up of made up of 24-year-old Marina, 22-year-old Maiken and 26-year-old Gemma, who made it through to the boot camp stage of the competition in 2006 as a solo artist.

The group performed a blues-influenced version of Britney Spears' 'Toxic', prompting Cheryl to say: "I think you are my favourite band so far - thank God you walked through the door today!"
