Mercado has looked more and more comfortable onstage as the competition progressed, as an entertainer, she may be the best bet of the final three to stay in Hollywood and forge a show business career. But the judges have always had doubts about her voice, and the sultry singer recieved very little encouragment from the judges.
Even when she recieved praise it was always with the postscript that she wasn't quite an Archuleta or a Cook. This was underlined after each of her Tuesday performances true on Tuesday, with even the mild mannered Paula Abdul telling Mercado she wasn’t sure she’d earned a spot in the final two, which cleared any doubt as to who the judges wanted in the finale.
It can be said that this week neither the judges nor the producers furthered the girls cause with their song choice, and it can bejustifiably said that she out performed and equalled vocally David Archuleta, draw your own conclusions...
