Supersize Vs Superskinny
Presented by Dr Christian Jessen and Anna Richardson, the magazine show which tackles the dangerous effects of extreme dieting, morbid obesity and eating disorders is back for a new series.
In the feeding clinic, Dr Christian Jessen will be pushing the diet swappers to the absolute limit, as he forces them to look beyond what’s on their plates to explore the psychological triggers that lead to their dangerous diets.
It’s fireworks in the feeding clinic, as 24 stone call centre agent, Julie Treadeagle goes into meltdown when she’s accused of lying about what she eats. Her accuser is superskinny caffeine addict, Jade, Potts who at just 5 and half stone is desperate to regain her pre-pregnancy weight for the sake of her young son. Whilst Jade barely eats a thing, Julie whose lack of confidence is stopping her from following her dream to be a schoolteacher, binges on huge platefuls of home cooked food – from massive cream filled curries to cheesy topped shepherds’ pies.
Supersizers get a supersize glimpse into what the future might hold as they watch very personal video messages in ‘Postcards from America’. These hard-hitting films feature morbidly obese Americans and reveal the appalling affects caused to their health and lifestyle by excessive eating. Tonight, it’s 37 and a half stone Alaina Morgan from Santa Rosa, California. Bedridden and under 24 hour care by a team of six, Alaina makes a personal plea to Julie to lose weight before it’s too late. To force the point home, it’s revealed that Alannah tragically died two months after filming.
Serial dieter Anna Richardson is two stones lighter than when she first hit our screens two years ago but she’s still obsessed with getting the perfect body. She investigates our enduring obsession with body image while fully immersing herself into the role; trying out the very latest products, exercise fads and procedures to get a tighter tum, including a form of pilates that looks more like a torture chamber!
Plus we take our first glimpse into the lives of three women and one man all in the grips of the mental illness anorexia nervosa. Over the next eight weeks we will follow their progress as they are forced to face their fear of food. Under the guidance of eating disorder specialist Dr Peter Rowan the causes behind this mental illness are explored, while friends and family discuss the devastating impact it has on their lives and the lives of the sufferers.
